Less power usage, faster output
This USB 3.0 cable is great for connecting an external hard drive and other devices requiring a 3.0 micro B connection.

You can use this cable for Mac or PC applications. It is also backwards compatible so you can use it for devices that are USB 2.0 or 1.1 compliant.
Solid, durable
Sturdy, with gold-plated connections, this USB 3.0 cable can be disconnected and reconnected time and time again without signal loss.
Details
- Uses less power but has increased power output
- 10 times faster transfer rate than USB 2.0
- Backwards compatible with USB 2.0 or 1.1 devices
USB Version Numbers
There are a number of different USB version numbers (1.0, 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0). This indicates their transfer speed. The higher the version number, the faster they can work. However, to get the full power, the "host", the device and the cable must have the same version. If not, the lowest USB version in the chain will control the speed.
For example,if your computer has a 2.0 USB port, your cable is 3.0, and your phone is 3.0, you will achieve 2.0 speed. If all three (computer, cable and phone) have 3.0 then you will achieve 3.0 speed.

The point I'm trying to make is these are wonderful cables for a professional environment that should last forever providing there is minimal flexing in its daily use.

It is a bit thick and less pliable than Samsung's, but that's just a bonus for me because the reason I had gone through 2 chargers previously was because my cat likes to chew them. My last one had also got so loose that it would fall right out of my phone if I even looked at it wrong, and I often had to wiggle it to get it to maintain the connection. This one is in there nice and firm, so far I have no complaints. It's longer too, but I like that. I have a Galaxy S5, if it helps.

Here's why: when my cable arrived, it would not work on a USB 3.0 port. I tried two different ports, but it did not matter: my computer would not recognize my portable hard drive. Since the drive worked perfectly with the cable that came with it, I knew the problem was with the Amazon Basics cable, and not the drive or the USB ports on my computer.
Oddly enough, the cable did work in a USB 2.0 port. But if I had wanted to buy a USB 2.0 cable, I would not have ordered this one.
Anyway, I contacted Amazon Customer Service, and, to their credit, they promptly shipped me a new cable, at no cost to me. Big thanks to them for addressing my problem so quickly.
Unfortunately, the replacement cable performed even worse than the first one: it would not work in either a USB 3.0 port or in USB 2.0 port. This buying experience was a complete waste of my time.
I then did what I should have done in the first place: I ordered three Monoprice Select Series USB 3.0 cables and each one of them worked perfectly.
To sum this sad story up: it is not worth your time to buy this product, at least not until Amazon address their quality control issues. Note to Amazon: I still have both cables, and will be happy to ship them back to you for failure analysis.

I tested several other AmazonBasics cables, a 9-foot USB 3 and two 3-foot USB 2 cables, and they were utter garbage, reading just 0.8 and 0.4 Amps. I was expecting this 3-foot USB 3 cable to be just as bad as the others.
I plugged it in to the tester and the tablet, and checked the reading. 1.50 Amps! Hey, this cable is actually decent! I'm pleasantly surprised!
