This stylish, high-quality American Mah Jongg set from Linda Li comes fully equipped in a gorgeous soft-sided carrying case with elegant quilted design and luxurious black paisley print.
The soft-sided bag is ultra lightweight, sporting a nifty two-way zipper for easy open and close functionality, a convenient inside zippered pocket, as well as 2 sturdy shoulder straps making it very convenient to carry around.
The set contains 166 premium ivory colored tiles, all fully engraved, and beautifully hand-painted. Made of melamine, they are heavy and scratch-resistant. These are the most beautiful Bams and Dots you will find.
The tiles break down as follows:
36 Dots, 36 Bams, 36 Cracks, 12 Dragons, 16 Winds, 16 Flowers, 10 Jokers, and 4 Blank Spares. Tiles measure 1-3/16" tall x 7/8" wide x 1/2" thick (30mm x23mm x13mm)
The 2 tile trays hold 80 tiles each, and there are 6 spare tiles included (2 Jokers, 4 Blanks). Each tile tray comes with a clear plastic lid to keep your tiles securely in the trays during transport. The tile trays are further secured by a matching quilted wrapper with strap closures.
The new all-in-one pusher and tile rack are a breeze to use and very easy to put away after game play. A second matching quilted wrapper keeps your all-in-one pushers organized and protected while packed away.
Also included: "Mah Jongg Primer, American Style" by Michele Frizzell, complete with 3D color graphics to help you master the game or brush up on rules and strategy.

The tiles are a soft ivory color; very soothing on the eyes, and the colors of the tiles' faces are a decent quality. The tiles come in a plastic tray with a (flimsy) cover. They are wrapped (and secured with Velcro). I intend to keep them in the zipper bags of the same fabric.
The plastic pushers and racks are all attached. (My old set is plastic and has separate pushers that attach by slipping onto the racks' posts.) I looked at my friend's new set with the wooden racks and pushers that are attached by magnets. They were so weak that, she had to buy tiny magnets in order to make them work. The only possible (future) flaw this new Linda Li set may have could be the attached racks and pushers. They are made of plastic and I wonder if eventually the mechanism will wear down, requiring the purchase of new ones. There is a fabric cloth with Velcro closures for them, just like the tiles. As with all things, if they are treated with care, they will last longer.
I could have purchased a less expensive set but, you get what you pay for. Before you buy, read the reviews and look at the percentage of four and five-star ratings. I think that if you want enduring quality and years of play, you'll opt for a Linda Li set.
As it was purchased as a gift for my wife, I asked her to submit a review below:
This Mah Jongg set is lovely, with weighty feeling melamine tiles in ivory color, which IMHO are more reminiscent of the sets I remember from the 1950s and 60s; the suit designs of bam, crack and dot are clear, richly colored and very beautifully represented, as are the flowers, jokers and dragons.
The padded carrying case in black and white paisley is well made, easily holds the covered tile boxes and racks with pushers. The pushers are the proper length for 19 side by side tiles for a wall, a nice plus; but while the colors of the racks are nice, their quality is not as good as the rest of the components. I would have preferred a weightier acrylic. I would like to see a reasonably priced "upgrade" of racks like the jewel tones or darker colors made available- ones that would still hold19 tiles side by side and fit into the Velcro closure case of this set.
Overall I am very pleased with this lovely gift and can't wait to share it with my group.
