About the Author

Ben Hoare is an award-winning journalist who has written and edited many natural-history books and magazines for DK, the BBC, London's Natural History Museum, and many others. Think of a well-known wildlife or nature writer who writes in English, and Ben has probably edited their words at some point. Since 2008 he has been Features Editor of BBC Wildlife Magazine. In 2015 Ben was awarded the Dilys Breese Medal for science communication by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO)--he is one of only 15 people to hold the award.

An Anthology of Intriguing Animals was illustrated by Daniel Long, Angela Rizza, and Daniela Terrazinni.

Trusted by parents, teachers, librarians, and kids across the world, DK is an award-winning publisher of visual reference books for children, including the DK Eyewitness Books, DK findout!, and Maker Lab series. DK books combine clear photography and illustration with expert text to show you what others only tell you.

I am a lover of children's books. I value a book with interesting die-cuts, embossing, beautiful illustrations, etc. So when I came across an ad of this book in a children's magazine, my child flipped. The value of this book is insane. Where can you get such a massive hard-cover book with foil on the cover, beautiful design layout throughout showcasing such great photography and illustration for the price?! It would be a great gift for any animal lover in your life.

Ever want to know....more?

More about the sea creatures, the land animals, the flying birds and the tiny bugs?

Well look no farther, because this book is the right one for you!

I absolutely loved all of the unique facts and exciting blurbs about the animals.

It's so incredibly fun (even for me, as an adult!) to learn about the animals that inhabit our earth.

"A tiny lantern shark could fit in an adult's hand and can glow in the dark, while a whale shark is as large as a truck, but eats nothing bigger than a shrimp."

And that's not to mention the GORGEOUS illustrations.

I really, truly believe that the illustrations of a book is a HUGE make-or-break moment. And this makes it. It makes it perfect.

Angela Rizza and Daniela Terrazzini do an absolutely amazing job with this book.

Every time I turned the page, I was stunned - absolutely stunned - by the beautiful images and photographs decorating it.

"In the cool of the night, hippos leave the water to munch grass, moving around like herds of giant lawn mowers."

This is quite possibly one of the most perfect books ever.

Though, if I could provide a suggestion - I would LOVE to see one of these for every continent. I would love to see an Animals of North America or Animals of Africa book. It truly would be amazing.

You aren’t suppose to judge a book by its cover... but if you did this one would get a 10/10. The quality is great. The gold embossing and the foil edge pages make it really pretty. It would look great on a coffee table. My daughter (age 6) loves reading this book. Each page has on average 2 paragraphs of facts on each animal. The book has a built in teal ribbon for a book mark, which makes this a great bedtime book. She reads at a 3rd grade level and is able to read it on her own with little help.

Get the set. I have collected books for 36 years. My girls get them all and so when I stumbled across one of these I bought the set with such high hopes the reviews wouldn’t let me down. I am in love with these books so I’ve attached photos of all three to help others decide. The books are so full of amazing stuff I think I’ll busy myself leafing through them before I let my girls touch. They love the pictures at ages 4 and 19 mos and we will read as we go! I love love love these. Wow.
