Atari is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and with it the spark that launched the modern video game industry. It has been five decades since a small team in Silicon Valley combined their creativity, curiosity and passion into making video games and hardware. The result of their efforts was Atari, one of the most recognizable and enduring entertainment and pop culture brands in the world. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is an interactive journey through 50 years of video games through interviews with designers, developers and industry leaders, documentary footage, product design documents, and of course, more than 100 playable games. Atari 50: Steelbook Edition is a limited collector´s edition that includes the game housed in an exclusive golden and black steelbook, and includes an exclusive poster created just for the occasion. At the heart of the 50th Anniversary Collection is a curated list of over 100 games that span seven different hardware platforms – a true feat of emulation by the team at Digital Eclipse. Behind every game are the stories of Atari, what was happening at the company, what went into the creation of the games and the hardware they ran on … told by the people who were there. It is a rare opportunity to get a rich, behind the scenes look at the history of video games. The talented team at Digital Eclipse also created six new games that revisit, mash-up and re-envision Atari Classics.

The package is well done, there's quite a lot of Atari history, both good and bad. They obviously have the emulators for all of the systems, but IMHO, the game library is thin. Sure, most of the favorites are here, but they really should have included every game they own the licenses to.
5.0 out of 5 starsFinally…Atari did itself justice

Yes there are IPs that they can’t include (ET, Empire Strikes Back) but this is literally the gold standard for any anniversary package. If you love The Godfather of video game systems and games then take an amazing trip down memory lane. Perfect? No. Close? More than EVER. ENJOY!!

Fantastic look back on a company that once held the top spot in video games. The absolute best presentation of retro video gaming ever, hands down. It is like viewing a museum with all the art and videos from the game creators themselves. Games from the 2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar, Atari 800 computer, and some of their arcade games. There are also reimagined games as well. There are 5 unlockable games that you can find too. The only complaint I have is with the Switch version there seems too be some volume issues with the videos in a noisy environment. The video volume seems to be very low and with the Switch volume all the way up, I still had trouble hearing it. Might just be my Switch, but headphones are recommended. A must buy for retro gaming fans.

A must have fir Atari fans. 50 years already? How time flies! Relive those early days when video games we new and all the rage. Play the games from the console that changed leisure time forever. The graphics are really good and the selection of games is fairly extensive, unfortunately a number of developers were not included such as Activision, so some of the favorite titles are not included. However the games that are included are some of the arcade, console and computer favorites. We’ll worth the price. If you are an “Atarian” you won’t be disappointed!

The game definitely brings you back - but the simplicity of all the old games turned into a big win in our household. My 9-year-old was playing Centipede and Missile Command for hours. Well done! Just wish it had the old Atari 2600 "Video Pinball"...only one missing that I'm missing!
