Buyer beware

I bought this product to transfer 185 proof alcohol to smaller containers for making tinctures. The picture above is what is left of the Siphon. After TWO uses it literally fell apart in my hands when I picked it up. It was washed and stored after each use. The only part of this system that didn't get brittle and fall apart was the 6 foot tubing. if I could give it less than one star I would. This is more of a toy than for serious use. I only hope that some of the plastic did not contaminate the material I was using.

I would advise against.

If You choose to buy this, plan on purchasing the correct size tubing or prepare to have small gouges in your hands. The tubing sent to me with this Siphon was a size too small. The instructions say to heat up the tubing in hot water to allow it to stretch and fit over the siphon. I stuck it under the hot water to continually have the end of the tubing allllmost fit, then slip and pop off of. Admitting defeat I handed it off to my husband. He heated the end of the tubing in boiling water to hopefully get the plastic material to further stretch. A few attempts later and the tubing and siphon not fitting together, along with the force to which he was trying to push the two pieces together causing the siphon to gouge him in the hand twice and draw blood. He was getting frustrated so I took back over. I got gouged in the hand as well before the siphon popped out of my hands and broke. Just. don't buy this one or plan on buying the right size tubing even though this comes with tubing

Excellent quality, works for kombucha and jun brew dispensing into bottles

It's a little awkward to use but I'm finding it very useful for dispensing the kumbucha and jun brews from 1 gallon jars into easy cap beer bottles.
Easy Cap Beer Bottles and Kombucha Bottles - 16 oz. - Clear 12 pack - EZ Cap -- Original Cherry Blossom Hardware Bottles (12, Clear)
. The biggest challenge is to control the flow between bottles so you're not spilling valuable brew in between bottles or overflowing bottles accidentally. I needed a tube clamp, which really should be bundled in with this product!, searched local hardware stores but couldn't figure out a way. Finally found this clamp
Bel-Art F18212-0000 Screw Style Tubing Clamps for Tubing up to ½ in. O.D. (Pack of 3)
which works perfectly with a little practice. (I practiced with water first!). The bottles are set lower than the kombucha jar so the siphoning can work.
The siphon leaves about 1/2" of brew in the original jar but that works for kombucha and jun brews - you don't want to bottle that part of the brew which has too much yeast.
I haven't had any problems with the siphon pump - works great. It feels well made to me. Tubing and pump clean easily with vinegar water - I fill a large jug of water and siphon it to clean the tubing. This is a highly recommended product but expect some mess until you get the hang of it.

Siphoned my Kombucha in 16 oz bottles EASY
18 July 2020 -
Published on Amazon.comVerified Purchase
I finally use this item today solo (by myself) to transfer my 2 gallons of Kombucha into 16 count of 16 ounce second ferment bottles.
It is easy to use and as long as you know how a siphon works you will be happy with the end result.
Here is the basic theory:
When the hose is below the point where the siphon is, the liquid will flow.
The liquid will stop once you bring the hose above the point where the siphon is.
Pros
- Easy solo operation
- Quick when you have some volume to go through. I siphoned 2 gallons pretty quickly after I added my flavors to my bottles.
- Patience is best with this product and there is very nice control when you have a patient steady hand
Cons
- Cleaning is not that easy but makes sense because of how this is made and how it works
- Storage can be interesting being that after you attach the hose, you cannot or should not remove it
- Be careful where you attach the stabilizer clip because I was not able to clip it onto my 2 gallon anchor jar and I did not want to force it and break the clip
Thank you for reading my review and happy brewing
