Save your money, may as well go for the cheap ropes because the quality is so bad. Now I'm getting fat again and I only have this faulty rope to blame. Just the rope. Definitely nothing else.

Both accommodate my 6’ height with probably 6” to spare. Both are adjustable, but the Sonic Boom 2 (SB2) is quicker to adjust. The Ballistyx (B) has a thicker plastic rope, the SB2 is a thinner plastic coated rope over a metal core. I feel I get a touch more speed out of the SB2, but can easily double under with both. I personally prefer the heft of the the B.
Both handles are long and easily fit my large hands length-wise. However, the SB2 has a much smaller diameter and feels too small to me - sort of the diameter of old school plastic beaded jump ropes. The B is larger, but not too big - perhaps slightly smaller than some of the foam handled ones on the market. I think the B is a perfect fit. Both have a great silky feel and hold up well to sweat. Neither handles are weighted, but both have a solid, durable feel to them.
Overall the SB2 is lighter, slightly quicker, and smaller handled. Personally, I prefer the Ballistyx with its slightly larger handles and thicker rope. Both are great speed ropes that are solidly built. I like them both and you can’t go wrong with either.

The Ballistyx Jump Rope is bigger in every way compared to the Sonic Boom:
- Thicker Handle
- 2 different Ropes with one thicker than the other and both larger than the ones that come with the Sonic Boom
The Ballistyx has a different type of rope adjustment compared to the Sonic Boom where you use a clamp inside the handle to keep the rope in place. It's not as convenient as the Sonic Boom but with the added weight of the rope, I can see why they went that route. Once locked in place, the rope is not going to budge at all. I can try pulling or pushing the rope from/in the the handle but it's not going anywhere.
The thick handles are great for control. The Sonic Boom has thinner handles which are great for Double Unders but not so much for fine control. Those are designed for speed while the Ballistyx are for control. The Thick Handles and Rope allow for great control and make doing Singles and Single-Foot jumps easier to do.
Overall, I view the Ballistyx as a supplement to the Sonic Boom and not a replacement. They both serve different purposes but both are fantastic jump ropes. I used to recommend the dime-a-dozen budget $9 Jump Ropes to friends and family but the Epitomie line of Jump Ropes are easily worth the extra cost. You get way more than what you pay for with these.

Epitome has made quality jump ropes for some time now. This latest offering has changed things up a bit, so let's explore the difference between this rope and the sonic boom rope.
Rope thickness: the ballistyx rope is about 3x as thick as the sonic boom rope. I generally prefer thinner ropes, so this is entirely preference. I also only jump rope bare footed. The thicker rope doesn't seem to hurt as much when it hits my feet but also seems to be a bit chunkier during operation. This will all come down to personal preference.
Handles: The handles on the ballistyx are a bit to long for my liking and a number of my other fighters have expressed similar feelings. Finding the sweet spot to hold the handle is a bit harder and always to me felt a bit out of place.
Rope adjustment: this is where this loses the most points. Almost every time I went to adjust the rope, the entire assembly seems to come apart. There is no quick release to adjust the rope and often times it takes me a few minutes to both readjust and re-secure the jump rope. Compared to the sonic boom, it is day and night. The Sonic Boom adjusts in seconds. Due to the rope being thicker, I am not sure what can be done to the assembly , but I absolutely prefer the sonic boom.
Smoothness: Once assembled, the rope swings effortlessly. This is common with all epitome jump ropes.
It is light weight, but due to the issues I had with the rope locking mechanism, I had to dock it a few points. It also worries me that the jump rope assembly might come apart and cause me to miss a piece when adjusting it.

After posting my review the company reached out to me and told me that the tangled rope was a rare defect in the manufacture. They sent me a new rope at no charge. This one works great. Really great deal and the company is very responsive.
Previous review:
Just received this rope a few days ago. It took me a few tries to figure out how to put it together properly, but once I figured it out it was easy to switch the ropes out. I included a picture here to show the proper order of connectors. Note that the locking mechanisms can not be used interchangeably between the two ropes. I am 5'7" and was only barely able to adjust the rope to fit me as is. Anyone shorter will have to trim the rope to fit in the handle. The handles themselves are relatively heavy which could be good or bad depending on your preference. I first tried the thicker "strength"rope. Really different feel. It takes a lot more effort to cycle and would be good for building up stamina. The thinner "speed" rope lives up to its name. Especially after the thick rope it flies around. My one complaint is that whenever I stopped the thin rope immediately became tangled. Also, you should not use this rope on rough surfaces. I was using it on concrete and the rope showed wear after only one use.
