No matter how hard I suck the straw, no water. I even adjusted the straw numerous ways, as per online posts, and it still doesn't work. I even removed the filter and, guess what. Didn't work then either.
What does work is the tiny hole above the straw. No shortage of water fell on my nose from there.
Maybe I received a faulty bottle. What I know for sure is that I'm returning it.

The Brita is not leak proof however. The vent hole dribbles water every time I turn up the bottle on my face and on my shirt. Also, with each sip, air is swollowed.
At 20 ounces, it holds slightly more than a standard 16.9 oz bottle, which is good because the stationary straw makes it nearly impossible to get the last 20% of water at the bottom of the bottle.
The recloseable cap does not bend completely back and presses against the bridge of my nose with each drink forcing me to turn my neck up.
I filled it up from my kitchen sink and was able to detect a chlorine taste. Furthermore, considering the cost, I believe a spare water filter would have been appropriate. I would not recommend it.

If you unscrew the cap with the straw/filter attached it it, you can look up under the top and see a little lock/unlock symbol (check the picture for reference). All you have to do is screw it just a little bit in the direction that it tells you for locking it. This wasn’t made too obvious, but now it works as intended. I don’t tilt the bottle like a regular gravity-fed water bottle; just use the straw as you would a regular straw with the bottle standing vertically.
You don’t have to keep the lid screwed on less tight as other reviews have suggested. This locking into place trick should make the bottle work normally. If not, maybe there’s another issue.
Like I said, I can’t give a full on review but just wanted to help people out before they think there’s something wrong with the bottle and decide to return it!

Now this is the most important thing about the water bottle: drink out of it like you would with a straw. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT use it as if you’re drinking out of a plastic bottle or a sippee cup. If there’s water dripping on your nose you’re using the bottle wrong. If you have to suck really hard and all you’re getting is air you’re using the bottle wrong. Lower the bottle and then drink from it.

Edited to add: it’s super easy to clean, with no strange pieces to trap moisture and build up mold like other similar bottles.
