Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon.com
-It can scan your own art and draw or cut it.
-It is very quiet.
-The touch screen is nice to use.
-It comes with a lot of available images for cutting or drawing.
-You don’t need to be online to use it, or to create images.
-It draws beautiful images.
-Does not come with a detailed manual, you must download it. The manual is not detailed enough.
-Very small things make the machine inoperable such as the blade must be inserted AFTER the machine is turned on. If the blade is installed before the machine is turned on, it will not operate properly.
-This is my biggest complaint -You CANNOT find supplies (mats) for it anywhere. I have spent a couple of hours on Google and can’t find a place to get the correct mats. They have mats for older models but not the SDX125e. Brother does not sell direct, but will send you to a “partner.” We live rurally and there is nothing within 100 miles of us for supplies. None of the big box stores have the mats. Simply cannot find them anywhere and this will be problematic as my second cut with the machine cut through to the mat. If you can't get supplies, there is little point in owning the machine.
If you’re looking at reviews for the Scan-n-cut SDX125 there is a good chance you’re trying to decide on a model or you’re deciding if you should up-grade from a scan-n-cut2. If you just do paper-crafting the SDX might be over-kill but if you work with vinyl the SDX has a roller feed (optional) which takes a roll of vinyl. The blade depth is automatic so it adjusts to different thicknesses of material. You might still have to do a little adjustment to keep from cutting into your mat. Be sure to do a half cut test cut. You can order new mats from Amazon. Look for model numbers with CADX in the number. Example:CADXMATSTD.
You can convert your PES embroidery designs for the DX machine. I’m not sure “convert”is the right word. I really wouldn’t recommend the DX for quilting unless you’re making a very small quilt. You have to cut you fabric to fit the mat, tack it down and cut individual pieces. (You can stretch the piece removing it). I find the Accuquilt GO! Machine works better for quilting. It has dies which cut very accurately and cuts several layers at once.
The DX is much quieter than the scan n cut 2, which I own. As I said, the blade depth is automatic. I love this feature because I hated adjusting the blade depth. So many other nice features. I suggest you go to youtube for videos on the machine. I am unable to put the link in the review but you can just put the model in the search bar.
