So far, I've used 3 packs of these filters on some dark wines (elderberry, blackberry, and concord grape), and they seem to capture a lot of the heavier sediment but I have found that I still get sediment in my bottled wine after the bottles set in the wine rack for only a couple weeks. So the lesson learned here is to not bottle wine after using this filter but rather to wait a few weeks, rack it, and then run it through a #3 filter. Another to point to make is that it is important to rack your wine a couple times before using this filter for the first time. The wine I ran through it was racked at least 3 times before I used the filter and I still had sediment in the wine after filtering.
Lastly, always run at least a gallon or two of clean water thru these filters before you start running wine through them. The dust in these filters have a nasty taste and you don't want that in your wine. Then when you do start running your wine, run a couple cups of wine down the drain to make sure all the water is removed before you start capturing the wine in your carboy.
