1.0 out of 5 stars Not safe with UV exposure
Reviewed in the United States on 3 September 2018
I bought several of these hoses in different to use around my horse barn. I had noticed the awful plastic smell of the water that comes out of hoses that have been exposed to sunlight, so I thought the rating as a drinking water hose with UV stabilizers would make this a durable hose.

These hoses don't sit in the sun all day, as the sun moves across the sky, leaving them in shade half the day. Starting last year, after 3 years in service, these hoses discolored badly and gave the water the same bad plastic smell of regular garden hose. I've attached a photo of what they look like now. I will replace them with something different.

At the exact same time in 2014, I bought a competing drinking water-safe hose which is no longer sold by Amazon. Such a shame! The GatorHyde hose looks brand new after siting in the sun every day of the year for 4 years.

If your use is intermittent and the hose spends most of its life stored in a dark closet, then you'll like this hose. Or if you expect to throw stuff away every few years, it's just fine. I have rubber hoses that are more than 20 years old. Not a fan to making more garbage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice Looking Hose And Sturdy, Not Sure If It Is BPA Free And Lead Free
Reviewed in the United States on 9 November 2015
I bought the 10 ft hose to use when I get my spring water. I wanted a lead free and bpa free hose. I found this hose on Amazon and read the reviews and the product description and decided to buy it. It is a nice looking sturdy hose. I did use it to get my spring water. My complaint is on the packaging it does not say it is a lead free and bpa free hose as it claims on this site and the Camco site. You would think that information would be included on the package/label the product came in. That would be a big selling point and since Camco is claiming that why not put that information on the product package? Is this product really bpa and lead free as they claim? All the package material says is Drinking Water Safe. If they put that information on the package material and it is not lead free and bpa free then that would be false advertising. It would still be false advertising if this site and the camco site claims it is bpa free and lead free and it is not even if the package does not say it though. I have not contacted the company yet but plan on doing so. That is why the three stars. I
have uploaded pictures of the packaging. One side is in English the other I believe is in French.

Update 7/6/16 : I did find out this hose is not completely lead free. I forgot to come back an update the review. Still not sure about the BPA but would question it. I still have the hose, I didn't bother to return it for the price I paid for it. I plan on buying a bpa and lead free hose in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Camco vs HD Valterra hoses... updated
Reviewed in the United States on 7 June 2019
Few (UPDATES)... Bought both, The HD Valterra 5/8" hose on first impression wins this one... a noticeably better product, all-round, with full flow through fittings match hose ID, my concern. (UPDATE: the brass or alloy male connection end is of a quite soft thin pressed out brass type metal. Caution dragging! I messed up my male end a little already, oops-). The HD Camco hose fitting connections are not full hose diameter. Both appear to be 1/2" ID restrictive fitting, but are machined sturdy and sharp cut threads. Many hose makers use restrictive fittings, and they are not desirable when long hose runs are necessary with multiple connections, at lower fresh water inlet pressures. Both the HD Camco and Valterra ends are attached well, but the machine sharp threads, and loose chrome plating flakes inside the Camco hose were not desirable, IMO. Also, IMO, machined sharp threading into other softer materials tend to cross thread, ie: plastic and other cast fittings. The HD Camco hose material does not feel or appear to match the 20% better claims as listed and on packaging. This Camco HD hose feels thin and the reinforcement appears almost as graphically embossed vs. the visible thread mesh inside the thicker feeling hose material of the Valterra HD hose. Both hoses are very stiff when cold. Camco hose felt like it would crack if forced. (UPDATE: the VT HD hose tends to take a set and kink quite easily in hot summer weather. Valterra HD hose coiling for storage during hot weather gets kinda weird. The HD Camco stiffer material hose may perform better in the summer heat.) Valterra HD hose packaging states a 10 year warranty, and feels like it will make it. The Camco HD hose... a limited 1 year package claim. IMO, the 5-6$ more for the Valterra 25' -5/8" hose is worth it, many of Val. products are.

I exchanged my Camco hose for their dual axle wheel twist clamp stabilizer... its simple, light, and handy, but needs to be checked every few days while in use. Happy trails.
