I bought several of these hoses in different to use around my horse barn. I had noticed the awful plastic smell of the water that comes out of hoses that have been exposed to sunlight, so I thought the rating as a drinking water hose with UV stabilizers would make this a durable hose.
These hoses don't sit in the sun all day, as the sun moves across the sky, leaving them in shade half the day. Starting last year, after 3 years in service, these hoses discolored badly and gave the water the same bad plastic smell of regular garden hose. I've attached a photo of what they look like now. I will replace them with something different.
At the exact same time in 2014, I bought a competing drinking water-safe hose which is no longer sold by Amazon. Such a shame! The GatorHyde hose looks brand new after siting in the sun every day of the year for 4 years.
If your use is intermittent and the hose spends most of its life stored in a dark closet, then you'll like this hose. Or if you expect to throw stuff away every few years, it's just fine. I have rubber hoses that are more than 20 years old. Not a fan to making more garbage.
