I give this book four stars because of the obvious skill and discipline of the author. The main character is the young Marisa who gets swept into an alternate dimension filled with chivalry.
I found no signs of info dumping or head hopping. The 'magic', is explained in good detail and is woven expertly into the dialogue.
I must admit I'm probably not the best example of the typical audience for this type of fiction...I kind of feel like a dirty construction worker that has stumbled into a ladies powder room...but, I'll try to be on my best behavior and not peek into the stalls.
Just from my own experience as a man, I think this book would actually appeal more to older women, and not so much young female adults. I could easily see a mid-life mom, geek-en out over dresses and well-refined gents, with endless patience for protocol. But the young ladies I remember from my youth, were much more into rebellious angst and experimental sex.
The book is expertly written but the dialogue was a little too dull for my taste.
Right around chapter 16 the dialogue got really intense and interesting but then it backed-off again.
I think the story could have benefited from at least some heavy petting scenes. I think everybody agrees that young love is properly validated with more than a few hot kissing scenes.
In the end, I would say this is a great story for any avid, female reader over the age of 35.
