The one I had received was unscathed. I was worried because the box was damaged by the time I received the product. (A shipping sticker was just stuck onto the side of the products box.
Set up was really simple. It was set up within minutes.
There were reviews that stated how difficult the priming button was. The button was very simple to compress and it primed without issues on the first try.
It's been set up in my 110 gallon tank for nearly a month now and the water is crystal clear.
For the longest time I had 2 marineland penguin 350 filters in my tank. Roughly 2x the filtration of the tank size.
After a short while my tank was looking very milky and murky. It stayed that way regardless of how much or how little I cleaned it.
I've read that this means that there is a bacterial bloom in the tank, most likely from overfeeding, overstocked, or under-filtering. Also agitating the gravel too much and releasing bacteria into the water column.
Most of these didn't really apply so I was a bit perplexed as to how to solve the issue.
The ammonia levels were zero and the ph was normal, just weirdly cloudy water.
It looked like someone had dumped a glass of milk in the tank.
I tried clarifying additives to no avail.
I found that I was changing the filters every week or more which was getting pretty expensive, and still was doing nothing for the water quality.
The filters also went from being relatively quiet to quite loud over a short amount of time.
At any rate, something needed to change, so I decided to roll the dice and try this cannister filter. I like the penn plax brand and figured it was as good a choice as any, and the price was right.
Well, after running for about a week and a small gravel vac/water change, my water is crystal clear.
And being that it is a cannister filter (no water agitation,) and lives under the tank in the cabinet, it is extremely quiet. My air pumps make more noise.
The output is quite powerful, so I have the spray bar on and pointed at one of the tank walls so it doesn't push the fish around.
I love it! I just wish I had've gone this route sooner! I could have saved myself quite a bit of money and frustration.
It was incredible at first. No noise mixing suction and everything.
My tank was always so clean. I also kept up with all my maintenance of the item and my tank (80gallon)
In July. Things changed. Things got cloudy. Always kinda struggled since then to keep everything looking pristine,,, since August so much noise has been increasingly coming from this filter I can’t even sleep. I’ve tried everything to fix it and it won’t. And I got this item got 189. The price is now over 220 i believe.
Now I gotta get something else cause there’s no money back guarantee no warranty. So I’m spending more money to get something that works and that sucks. Cause I trusted all the reviews when I got the item. And it barely lasted 8 months.
