To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This is a good study guide with lots of the necessary detail. I attended the official CISSP course and the structure was different which is confusing as it became apparent that some topics were split across sections in this book. Domain 8 and 9 are also not covered in sufficient detail. I passed the exam but feel I would not have done it just on the contents of this book. But the official student notes were basic too. So, in conclusion, I would strongly recommend that you read this book before attending the training to get the best of both.
The study guide is certainly comprehensive and is mostly well structured making it relatively easy to read through. However from time to time there are pages full of text that is badly structured and rambling on unimportant details. These sections can be really frustrating as it makes it so much harder to keep the motivation and concentration up.
The practice tests and additional questions are well worth it and really help keeping the information present.
I have always used Sybex books as my preferred training material. Although in this case, I found the study guide was a much more useful revision tool than the question book; which was basically an extension of the end of chapter questions from the guide and quite far off of those seen in the exam.
I have always used the Sybex book for a number of certifications, and they have always included a pdf of the book, so it is convienient to use on an iPad for instance. Carry an 1000+ page book on the bus or the train is not very practical. But this version, no pdf. Shame!
