It's everything you like about the aeropress: steeped for deep rich flavor, and filtered through paper for clarity. But you can just set it atop the cup and let it filter while (in my case) you chase your toddler away from kitchen knives, frying bacon, cleaning products, whatever else she finds in the kitchen while you would otherwise be artfully pressing a perfect cup of low-volume concentrate that you then wind up watering down to achieve the monster cup you need because said toddler.... you get the picture.
I got the larger size and it brews a 10-12 oz cup just like I need. I've started using it with a reusable mesh filter vs. paper and now there's a bit of silt in the cup. But that's ok. It's kinda crunchy at the end. Stick with paper filters for really clear coffee.
**March~~After four months, this is still like new. No problems, breakage, leakage, or diminishing usefulness. My $50 French press is just eye candy now. sigh. The clever is used at least once/day. Another thing I like to do is throw 10 tea bags in and let it steep, refill a couple of times and it is easy mess free iced tea.
After two and a half years of daily use it is still as described above. It remains the perfect and only way I make coffee. It functions as brand new.
After months of investing in figuring out the exact groud size, water ratio, temperature, steep time and process for my Aeropress, I started wishing I could have a way of making more than one serving at a time for those sad days when the wife asks to share my coffee. This clever thing does exactly that! I pretty much ignore the instructions and immediately tried my Aeropress formula and process. The same ground size, water ratio, bloom time, stir, pour, steep. The result was a slightly stronger brew due to the extra time it takes for the coffee to exit the device than the press. So I make a slight adjustment to the steep time the second try and I was pretty much able to closely replicate the Aeropress ever since.
For the water/coffee ratio. I use 250 ml for the Aeropress and 470 ml for this device. You could technically pour 500 but will very likely be filling it to the edge. The same ground size is huge for me since making precise adjustment to my Hiro between different ground sizes would be a big issue....so yes, I am not using the large ground size as instructed.
I am also happy to report that I no longer give the wife that "look" when she ask to share....life is good again....
Beautiful concept, amazing design, simple execution. I'll never use anything else!
