My older dog responds to it quite well and I barely need just the slightest sound. My new pup, now 1.25 years old, is learning to associate it with bad behavior. I use this specifically for barking and jumping. As a suggestion for training you need to use the same word every time so your four legged family member knows what it's for. No bark and down are my two commands. I don't use sit because as long as he's not jumping there isn't a problem.
I also suggest buying the multi-pack because you can have separate cans at several locations. I have one outside next to the leashes and I have one by the door that I can access for in the house situations such as people coming over or their barking at people through the window that are walking by with their dogs.
You can't use more than a couple time in a row, or it doesn't work. The can gets really cold and looses its sound.
Our trainer gave us a can of the pet corrector when he brought our two big dogs home from training them. They love to play really rough together and it can lead to yelping, crying and almost knocking over the tv because they are so rough. One spray of this and they STOP!
We spray it once and make like a PSSSST noise and they have already started associating the sound with the pet corrector. Depending on how engaged they are in their negative behaviors, sometimes we don't even have to spray the pet corrector, just make the sound.
I think this is a good training device to correct bad behaviors and teach your dogs not to bark, play too rough, dig in the trash can, etc.
When our trainer told us how expensive it was I immediately thought it was crazy and that canned air for the computer would work the same. Well, it doesn't, it's not loud enough. I was glad to find such a good deal on Amazon.
