I found Vanicream to be a lifesaver for me after I became very sick from chemical and fragrance allergies. This conditioner is closer to what one would find from conventional shampoos and conditioners --- same consistency and such. However, unlike conventional soaps, there aren't any harsh chemicals or botanical extracts to 'scent' the conditioner. It's very gentle on my skin and my hair. For my fiancé, he finds it to cause his scalp to itch slightly so he sticks with Magik Botanicals. For me, this works better. I have normal hair and not any real scalp issues, not overly oily or dry. I do ocassionally add raw honey in with my conditioner for a deep conditioning, and they work well together. I use this along with the Free and Clear shampoo and my hair is soft and clean and free of things that make me sick!
My only complaint is the price, but that is a common complaint of mine now that I am sick. Products that do not cause anaphylactic reactions in me always seem to be pricier than my old, and now unsafe, products.
Please note that if you are switching from a drugstore or salon brand with all those harsh ingredients, your hair and scalp will need time to adjust! Just as your body needs time to adjust from any major change.
So if you are using this conditioner on the assumption it is the ultimate hypoallergenic product, and you still have skin issues, it's quite likely this could be the cause.
Otherwise it performs OK as a conditioner. I accepted the not great conditioning because I was so desperate for a hypoallergenic product, but it's not a great conditioner in general. The best part is it's basically scent-free.
My only request is that I wish they both cost less or that they were in a larger bottle for the price.. either way would make them more cost effective.
UPDATE:(3/30/21) For some reason the conditioner starts mildewing or molding while the shampoo doesn't. I'm not sure what ingredient is in this that is causing it to happen but I've started noticing that the conditioner starts growing black stuff🤔
