Cricut Cutting Mat Tips
Keep the clear film cover on the mat when storing to keep mat free from paper scraps and dust. Use the scraper to scrape away excess pieces and the spatula to carefully remove cut images. Check you are using a Cricut branded Cutting Mat, specifically for the Cricut Maker. Check that the Cricut Maker Cutting Mat has been inserted correctly using the arrow feed button (first button on the left) Please ensure that you do not rip out the Cutting Mat after it’s been recognised. Any further problems, refer to Cricut Help on the Design Space Menu.

Light CleanGive your mat a light cleaning when it loses some of its stickiness. In order to keep your mat sticky for as long as possible, it's a good idea to clean it regularly. First scrape it off with a plastic scraper, either Cricut brand or any other type of hard plastic scraper. Then wipe an alcohol-free baby wipe or roll a lint roller over the surface. A lint roller is usually stickier than the mat, so it's able to remove any debris that is stuck to the mat. The baby wipes are able to gently wet down the surface and remove debris without damaging the mat. |
Rub Mat DownRub the surface with soap and water. If you have used your mat repeatedly and it is really lacking stickiness, the surface may need a light scrub. Put a small amount of dish soap and warm water over the surface and scrub it lightly with a soft brush. Then rinse the surface off with warm water. If you want to use a sponge on the surface, try a Magic Eraser. This type of sponge will be gentle enough on the surface and it is good at removing residue. |
Spray & Dry MatSpray a degreaser on the mat. If your mat is very dirty and has no stickiness left, you will need to use a stronger cleaner. Degreasers will cut through whatever is on the surface and remove it. However, they can leave a residue, so the mat needs to be cleaned with soap and water after using a degreaser. Using a strong degreaser may diminish the stickiness of the mat. However, you can replenish the stickiness after it is clean and dry.Let the mat air dry. Once clean, put the mat on a drying rack or hang it up so that both sides of it are able to dry completely. |

For everyone with the issues and paper sticking. The green mat is NOT for paper backing. It’s for vinyl. The light blue is for paper. It’s a light stick. As far as I’m concern this is a true cricut product or a very good knock off. First picture is from the cricut website and the one I received is identical. Held my vinyl nicely and released just as easy.

Update: I stand corrected. These are apparently really made by Provo craft. I went to my local craft store and purchased a pack of mats and got the exact same thing. I'm very disappointed in the quality. I have a really old mat that cuts cleaner than these. I apologize for the first review but I stand by my review that they are bad quality. These are absolutely NOT made by Cricut. These are fakes branded as Cricut mats. There is a layer of paper under the initial layer of cutting mat. When you try to remove your item you cut out, the top layer of the mat scratches off. The photo was taken after one use. These are terrible quality! Pay the extra two bucks and buy them from your local craft store!

I ordered a 3 pack of the standard grip Cricut cutting mats, sold and shipped by Amazon, so I felt good about the quality. On the very first use, my vinyl backing would not come up cleanly. It is overly sticky and the paper tears and leaves it behind. The only way to get it off of the mat is to use the weeding tool and scrape for 15 minutes. Nope, not happening. I have ordered Cricut Mats from Amazon before with the same result! That was last year, and I got a 2 pack of the 24" mats. The first one was fine, but the second was just like this one. I feel like they must be seconds or defective items that Amazon is getting. Returning!
