I frequently use 6 oz. custard cups to store left overs and condiments but have been frustrated by the cheap, rigid plastic covers that come with them. They pop off in the fridge and crack after a few rounds in the dishwasher. These silicone lids are the perfect solution. No more spills.
I just got these and haven't used them with food yet, but I can say some things right now while the thoughts are fresh. These lids fit perfectly on those 2 cup pyrex glass bowls, which is why I got them. They also fit great on some of my more wide-mouth mugs and some other small bowls I have. So, the lids are versatile. I really appreciate that I was able to get a set that is all the same size. Most of the sets out there come in a variety of sizes, which is irrelevant when you want to replace all those broken and lost and non-soup proof lids that came with the pyrex bowls.
They are also cute. I got a nice variety of colors and there is a fun little smilie face in the center.
I don't know about this brand, but I have read that these types of thin, stretchy silicone lids are prone to tearing. That's why I think it is pretty amazing that these lids come with a 12 month warranty! I really did not expect any warranty with a product like this. That's why I decided to write this review now. Full props to a company that actually stands by its product. That said, I'll update my review if the lids do tear in the next year.
Also note that I could totally do without the two extras. The silicone 'sponges' are pretty worthless in my opinion, and I didn't need a (admittedly cute) tiny funnel... I'd rather save a few pennies and not get those items.
I used it for my 4 cup/1 quart/950 mL Pyrex Tupperware and although it worked well, it really wasn't the right size. I did manage to make it fit after many minutes of trying, and it stayed sealed once I could get it sealed. there is no complaint with the product itself. I am just warning future buyers that it will be too small for this size container and I suggest you measure the container you want to cover before you buy.
UPDATE: We switched to the next bigger size for the 10 oz Pyrex bowls—it was just too tight of a stretch with the 3.7” lids. We have also purchased a set of bigger ones that stretches over the medium size Correlle plates, to cover leftovers. This really cuts down on use of plastic wraps-highly recommended. ORIGINAL POST: We use the 3.7” size to stretch over 4.7” Pyrex 10oz custard cups and 4.3” soup mugs, for storage on the refrigerator. For example, cut fruit fruit in the evening for next morning’s breakfast, or make a batch of chili and store individual servings for the week. The 4.7” cups are about the maximum stretch for this size lid. We used to cover these servings with disposable plastic wrap, so these reusable lids cut down on our plastic waste.
These fit and work perfectly for the small (6 oz. - 175 ml) Pyrex bowls. However, that's not why I originally purchased these, which was for a cat food "dome". My kitty will frequently leave all or some of her wet food on her plate (even though we only serve her a third of a small can at a time) but she'll come back for it a short time later. We were using wax paper to temporarily cover the food to keep it moist (and contain the smell), but that was a nuisance and wasteful. I now use these little covers instead. Unstretched, they are about 3.5" in diameter, so if the food is spread out on her plate, I just spoon it back into a little heap, center the dome over it, and when kitty returns, easily lift the lid off by the little tabs that stick out (no smelly cat food on the fingers). These lids clean up beautifully...so far, I've just hand-washed them only because I don't see the point of putting them in the dishwasher (and I put almost everything in my dishwasher).
Quality has gone down so much. I have purchased silicone tops in the past, and the thickness was so much nicer. I have no idea why they include the useless gifts instead of having a better quality. I wish Amazon would have a mandatory thickness information, so us customers would have an idea of what we are buying. I kept them as they still work, but I think they will not last much.
We give our dogs canned Pumpkin in their meals for the additional fiber and these silicone lids are a good size for the large cans of pumpkin that we use. We used to have to use plastic food wrap to seal the opened cans, but these lids save us time, money, and eliminate a lot of plastic wrap waste. Although other larger sets of assorted silicone lids will usually have 1 lid that will fit the pumpkin cans, I now have about 20 silicone lids and we don't use the majority of them.....so this set was perfect as I know they won't last forever with the daily use that they will get at our house, but now I have several spares -- Terrific!!
I love using these lids over single-use plastic wrap. It makes me feel better that I'm not contributing to plastic waste. The lids are sturdy and fit nicely over most bowls, however the plastic gets slippery easily and is sometimes impossible to secure over a bowl without an extra pair of helping hands. I definitely don't regret buying them, but don't expect to get them on in one go. Cleaning them is easy, but if you put them in the dishwasher they will get some spots. Lastly, when stretching the lids they don't hold their shape as nicely as some videos suggest. All in all, this is a nice set of lids that you can specify the size of instead of getting a variety pack.
I bought a set of these in various sizes but needed this size more often for a set of pyrex type bowls where the lids had broken. I use these bowls alot and the varied size set had only one. They fit perfectly. I find them hard to clean and harder to get dry meaning they need to stay out until they're air dried. (same thing happens with the reusable sandwich bags I bought). And they can be a bit aof a pain to get them on straight. But they do what I needed them to do ie cover several similarly sized glass bowls that don't have lids. I was really glad I could buy these in all the same size. So many only offer one set of several sizes. Most of which I probably won't ever use. If I ever need more, I'll buy again cuz I can pick what size I want.
Work great when there isn’t a potential for any condensation…. Which is pretty much never, when you’re taking food in-out of the refrigerator. So, essentially I haven’t been able to use them. Still deluding myself to think they will be useful to some degree. It’s a great concept and I like thinking they’ve solved my problem of missing lids. It just won’t be the purposes I really needed them for. (They’re leakproof, while there’s no moisture. Given leaks are due to liquid, that’s not long lasting. And they are not easy to clean, if you’re trying to wash by hand.)
