Reading other reviews/questions I see 3 major concerns and I’ll offer my two cents on those topics.
Unrolling - Yes, this mat comes tightly rolled, that is how they ship it to you for a low cost (free for prime). Other places (Uline) offer flat-shipping mats, but with shipping that comes to over $100 for one mat. I purchased this for $51 and I see it is now $43. For that price I have no complaint with the fact that it took 3 days to totally flatten out. It was winter and my apartment was about 65 degrees and in 3 days the mat was totally flat and I have had no issue.
Slipping - I have mine on a slick hardwood floor. If I take a running start and jump on the mat I can get it to move about half of an inch, in normal use it hasn’t moved at all. I do have 2 legs of a desk on it, which probably helps. In the end of the day I can’t take off points for this because I don’t think any equivalent product would perform better here. The carpet mats with spikes would move less, but don’t work on hardwood floors.
Thickness and Durability - I used a digital caliper to measure the mat, it is 1.62mm thick (image attached). Thicker would create more of an uneven surface, and thinner might be less durable, I think this is a solid middle ground. I’ve had mine for over a month and I see no marks from my chair. My chair has 2 sticky wheels, so I was worried that the dragging (rather than rolling) would cause problems, but this mat has held up well.
Size - This isn’t as discussed by other reviewers, but I still want to mention it. I have the 46x60 inch version and I think that going smaller would be a mistake. You want enough space to be able to tuck you chair into your desk and pull it back to stand up, smaller mats seem like you would be rolling off of them. I also like the version without the lip because I think having 2 desk legs on the mat keeps it from sliding.
So yes, for twice the price you might be able to get something marginally better, but this is 5 out of 5 stars from me and I am pleased with the quality and price.
