The Brut from Delamotte is an atypical champagne which breaks the mould of non-vintage brut champagne which is too often stereotyped. The refreshing lightness is due to the majority of Chardonnay in the blend with structure and fruit brought by the Pinot Noir and density by the Pinot Meunier. 36 months cellar ageing adds supplementary smoothness and maturity. The nose offers lovely bready and fruity aromas with white fleshed fruits pear and a touch of ginger in the mouth. It is a champagne which is absolutely perfect for aperitif.
Brut NV - Review by David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate
The majority-Chardonnay (most of that from Avize, Cramant and Oger) Delamotte NV Brut is 35% Pinot Noir (from the Montagne de Reims); 10% Meunier (from the Vallee de la Marne); and spends three years sur latte as well as six or more months in bottle prior to release. Officially, it is grand cru.
Clover and apple blossom with a discreet whiff of chalk in the nose lead to an oily and expansive yet buoyant and refreshing palate, its fresh apple and pear suffused with savory sweet-saline and iodine-tinged crustacean shell reduction. Piquant hickory and black walnut as well as chewy apple skin are subtly integrated so that they serve for insistent, low-grade excitation. This umami, mouthwatering cuvee displays a combination of textural richness with lift and elegant restraint that represent outstanding value for this genre.
Maison Delamotte has been a benchmark in Champagne since 1760.
Delamotte director Didier Depond and chef de cave Michel Fauconnet - also responsible for Champagne Salon, housed in immediately adjacent facilities - perpetuate some long-standing house rules, including fermentation in tank, generally with a substantial share of the lots undergoing malolactic transformation; and the incorporation into one or both of their Blanc de Blancs bottlings (in years when no Salon is declared) of fruit from the vineyards under contract for that house.
