There's a lot to love about the U3219, colors are rich and even a bit too saturated (i dropped it a hair), the FRC helps a bit for HDR, and the viewing angles are pretty solid for 32 inches. When plugged into a MacBook Pro 15 inch, it even charges the bad boy which is cool (more on this).
That said, the backlighting.... when on a pure black screen it's pretty apparent its uniformity is pretty mediocre, and it comes through in very dark scenes in games/movies or photos, and there's a significant bevel shadow around the edges of the screen. Sadly this is about the best 32 inch display I've seen in person and also still disappointing. Running on a 2010 Mac Pro, the monitor works great, but it's simply marred by so-so backlighting.
Then there's the fate of my work MacBook Pro 2017. Two days ago, my MacBook Pro was functioning normally. Then yesterday morning, I tried to plug it into the monitor, and nothing happened. I tried it several more times, then went to get my MacBook Pro charger. I tried another... then went to the office and tried another. Turns out the ability to charge or use devices providing power stopped, and I handed my MacBook Pro to my office manager to take to Apple.
So now I'm also wondering if the USB 3.1c port fried my MacBook Pro or it just so happened to die? It was an 2017 MacBook Pro which haven't been known for their problem free existences. I can't prove it either way, but on the safe side, I've sent the monitor back. It very well could not be the fault. However, it remains the only new device that could have fried the ICs on the Thunderbolt 3 ports... or they just died. Now the question is, do I get another? Is there anything with a better picture under $1100? :(
/edit: Landed on the new BenQ PD3220U, and it is a significant upgrade. It's about twice the price but also doesn't insult my eyes. Since my original purchase, the Dell has dropped significantly in price, making it more appealing. It's not great, but it isn't terrible like many of the popular cheap 32-inch displays.
If they fixed the backlighting and bevel shadow on a later model, this would be the best sub $900 display hands down.
Very thin bezels
Zero dead pixels
The monitor has a massive light bleed. All dark scenes look yellowish - what happened with QC Dell?
No built-in speakers
Poor packaging - box came with a big hole on one side, few corners looked like the box was dropped (probably UPS's fault)
All previous monitors bought from Amazon came double boxed, even much larger Dell U3818DW - please fix this Amazon!
I have a replacement coming in 2 days so the score may change.
Didn't bother to get another replacement. Totally disappointed for its poor quality and would never buy a Dell Ultrasharp monitor again.
Bright, beautiful, elegant form factor. Plenty of room to work on anything, multiple things, complicated things, beautiful things. I have always bought HP monitors and can tell you that the durabilty of their professiona monitors is also second to none. If you are currently researching, and this is in your price range, just stop and buy this. I just saved you a bunch of time and you will be thrilled. You're welcome.
