I really wanted to like this product. Really. But it's got 3 problems. 2 of them are fundamental, 1 is just an inconvenience.
1. Back cushion foam is too soft
2. Straps are elastic and the length doesn't hold.
3. The short side of the bottom strap is on the side of the car seat and very difficult to reach/adjust.
1. Foam too soft.
If you're buying this item to solve lower back pain, you need it to be supportive. Firm. The shape of the cushion is excellent. The thickness is perfect. Not so thick that you get pushed too far forward and lose the leg support from your car seat. But..... the memory foam in the back cushion goes flat pretty quickly, giving your lumbar way too little support.
Using the same thickness, but higher density memory foam would be a big improvement. Maybe make 2 pockets in the back cushion and use the same density memory foam for the thoracic and a much firmer foam for the lumbar? That would be perfect.
2. Elastic straps.
The most promising feature of this cushion is that is has two sets of straps. The top one for holding the cushion at the correct height, the bottom strap for preventing the cushion from riding up. I was hoping this would enable me to fix the position of the cushion. Top strap pulling up, bottom strap pulling down. But no.
Turns out that both straps are ELASTIC. Why would you choose to use elastic straps when the purpose of the straps is to keep the cushion in a fixed position? A small amount of stretch might work out ok, but these straps are very stretchy and allow the cushion to move way too much.
I tried to pull all of the stretch out of the straps, making them very tight around the seat, but the keepers didn't hold and the straps slipped back through the keepers after a few hours in the car. Making the straps out of non-elastic webbing with good keepers for holding the position would be a huge (necessary) improvement.
3. Buckle location.
On the bottom strap, the short side of the buckle winds up being located on the side of the seat, next to (or on top of) where the seat back pivots at the seat bottom. It's very difficult to adjust the strap length when the buckle is hidden between the B-pillar and the seat adjuster. It would be an easy fix to make this side of the strap a few inches longer, so you could adjust the strap length from the back seat.
On a positive note, the neck cushion is awesome. After I return the set, I may order the neck pillow separately. The foam density is perfect for the neck pillow and the elastic strap wasn't too much trouble there either.
