Almost anything can cause water damage.
According to industry statistics, about one in 50 insured homes has a property damage claim caused by water damage or freezing each year. The causes are innumerable, with many leaks going undetected for long periods. They can range from burst pipes, a leaky dishwater outlet, a loose connection under the sink, a broken washing machine, a downpour that floods the basement to an overflowing bathtub – and practically anything else in between.
Water damage has catastrophic consequences.
Water damage causes all sorts of trouble, with loud dehumidifiers and pumps significantly impacting quality of life. If you fail to spot a leak, it can lead to mold which will wreak havoc on your health. Your furniture and possessions will also be affected, resulting in you needing to spend a lot of money on extensive and costly renovations. Say goodbye to this hassle, and protect yourself and your home with Eve Water Guard.
Identify water damage immediately.
If water leaks out, you’ll need to act swiftly to prevent worse damage. Eve Water Guard will alert you immediately with its 100 dB siren and red flashing warning light – and also notify you via iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. And if you’ve got a home hub – such as an Apple TV or HomePod – you’ll also get notifications when you’re away from home.
Compared to other devices with spot-based detection, Eve Water Guard monitors large areas of your room thanks to its supplied 6.5 ft sensing cable that serves as a full-length sensor – and if that’s not enough, you can extend it up to an incredible 490 ft. This means that every nook and cranny of your room is monitored, leaving nowhere for water to leak out or pool undetected.
The Eve app reminds you at regular intervals to check that Eve Water Guard’s working perfectly – with a soft alarm that’s gentle on the ears. And if the siren is triggered, you can mute Eve Water Guard via your iPhone – even if you’re away from home, provided you have a home hub.
In case of an alarm, your HomeKit accessories all work in concert. Create a scene in which Eve Energy switches off your washing machine to stop even more water flooding out. Or use AirPlay 2 to sound an additional alarm on another floor. Now it won’t matter where you are at any given moment – your home hub, Apple TV or HomePod, makes all this possible.
A reassuring feeling.
Leave your home even with the washing machine running. Enjoy complete peace of mind knowing that no water’s leaking from the water pipes in the cabinets. And keep a watchful eye on the basement, even though you don’t go there that often. Eve Water Guard adds a watertight layer of protection to your home.

Nearly all leak detectors on the market are battery powered, and have a 1-2 year battery life. I have a sump pump that is sealed underneath a tiled shower bench -- this is difficult to access so I prefer a plug-in detector. As far as I can tell, the Eve Water Guard is the only reliable plug-in detector on the market.
I previously used the D-Link DCH-S160 leak sensor, the previous only-one-in-the-market plug-in, but it is discontinued. My last one successfully detected a slipped coupler on my pump, got sprayed with water, and gave up its magic blue smoke. Besides being discontinued, the DCH-S160 never connected reliably to WiFi (it bound a BSSID rather than SSID, so needed to be reset if the access point was replaced), and the app and cloud service were unreliable.
After a bunch of searching, I purchased the Eve Water Guard. With HomeKit this took less than a minute to install and required minimal configuration. I already own an Apple TV, so its dependence on this for gatewaying to WiFi was not a problem for me. I like that this doesn't depend on an Eve service, so even if they disappear (I hope they don't!) my leak sensor will continue to work.
Eve suggests testing the sensor upon install, which quickly detected the test water. As per a poor review here, the sensor cable is extremely sensitive and takes a while to dry. This is probably a positive attribute, but it did take nearly two hours for the "alert" condition to clear. Thankfully, the audible alarm can be silenced from the app.
Overall, I was wary of getting a HomeKit-only device, but this was my only plug-in option and I'm extremely pleased with its performance. I'm tempted to get a second one to replace my other DCH-S160, but at the current price I don't need to replace something that hasn't (yet) failed.
I have an Amazon Echo, Philips Hue lights, a Ring doorbell, Zmodo cameras, etc., and all of them can send me notifications (or let me control them) while I am out of my house. Unfortunately, the Eve detector doesn't appear to work that way.
The device itself looks and feels pretty decent, and was pretty easy to setup and test. So overall, I think it would have met my needs if it just used WiFi (or Amazon Echo) and didn't require an Apple Home Kit hub to send me notifications.
As it is, I returned this device as the main reason I purchased it was to be notified of leaks when I wasn't home.
