You don't get to be 150 years young without reinventing yourself every once in a while. Throughout the years, we've explored new varieties. Changed our look. Rolled out ground coffee and single-serving Keurig K-Cup packs. But there are some things we'll never change. For starters, the classic flavors inside our new bags remain untouched. All of our whole bean and ground varieties continue to be crafted using only high quality, 100% Arabica coffee. And all of our roasting is done at our own facility in Maryland, USA, under the expert supervision of master roasters. It's what you look for in your coffee, and it's what we'll always deliver.

So smooth, absolutely not bitter. It also has a very bright, not burnt flavor. It's so refreshing! I'm only allowed to have decaf (doctor's orders) so I tried several before finally finding this one that I like.
My wife is a Starbucks addict (not kidding, she really is addicted) and we decided for her health, it was time to ween her off of that stuff. She was very skeptical of 'my coffee' and was reluctant to try it. Once she did try Eight O'Clock decaf, she was very enthusiastic and asked me to order more. That says a LOT coming from Mrs. Coffee Snob herself.
I have also tested 6 whole bean decaf and 1 ground decaf in that time, giving each coffee an extended taste of at least a few weeks. Of the 7 total decaf coffees tested, 1 was supermarket quality (ground), one was a modest but fairly well reviewed whole bean, and the other 5 were high rated, more expensive varieties. 3 of these 5 were fine. One was completely without character. And then there was this Eight O'Clock, which is very reasonably priced...so low, that it shouldn't be much of a "flavor experience."
None of the other whole bean decaf coffees I tasted were as nearly good, and only one was even in the same universe with this one. I'm done. This is my late-in-the-day decaf coffee forever.
First off, the whole beans in the 2# bag were anything but "whole" - more like 60% crushed into pieces and basically dust. So the chance of any flavor being held within the beans was gone from the start. I actually considered just returning it, but gave it a chance...with little hope. There is simply no excuse for the condition these beans were in, an absolute lack of quality control or professional processing, packaging and handling. The resulting coffee was doomed from the start.
That little hope was too much. I use a high-quality grinder, so it did its usual good job of grinding through the mess; but just from the sound of the grinder, I knew it was forced to push through the dust and pieces, which does nothing for creating quality coffee grounds. There was almost zero aroma from the grounds, so strike two; no aroma is just an indicator of no flavor following.
As with my grinder, I use a high-quality coffee maker; but the tools have to have something to work with, in this case at least acceptable beans. Since that quality was already noticeably missing, the final "product" - the cup of coffee - amounted to little more than colored water, a complete waste. At least truckstop coffee offers flavor, although much like melted tar.
I will just use this up, perhaps by doubling the amount of beans per cycle to try and squeeze something out of this. This product is absolutely not worth purchasing. I do not recommend it at all.
