Needed a shredder for remote work and this fit the bill. As long as you don't intend to shred a ton of pages at once, this little machine is great. When I first received this, I had quite a large stack of documents saved for shredding and got a bit overzealous in feeding the pages into the shredder. I had to stop once, unplug and unclog a jam before I could keep going, but after another 100 or so pages, it overheated and shut down. I unplugged it to let it cool down. It was fine the next morning when I powered it up again and was able to finish. Since then, I've been able to stay caught up on my shredding and just do a handful of pages at a time. It works great for my purposes. As a bonus, I am able to use the shredded paper in my composter for my garden!
Easy to use, however, I’d make the following observations:- Be careful not to shred too much at a time, about 5 minutes is fine so shredder doesn’t get too hot, and don’t put more than a couple of pages thickness through at at time. Check regularly that the shredded pile in the bin doesn’t reach the blades - push the cone of accumulated shredding down Don’t let the bin get too full before emptying and each time bin was emptied trickled a little oil across blades as instructed in the manual Have owned a Fellows shredder before, well made and with careful treatment last for years!
I had various Fellowes shredders over a long period of time and they all performed well and I did not feel hard done by when they each finally gave up and I replaced them. I particularly liked the one with the mesh basket but couldnt find it so chose another manufacturer. I bought a good spec, and paid accordingly, but it failed (kept running after it had finished shredding, despite me cleaning out blades etc etc as advised.) Amazon replaced it without any drama and I chose to buy Fellowes again and the new shredder is working perfectly and just fills me with confidence that it will do for some time. OK I dont like the basket as much as I did the mesh basket with the older models, but this machine is solid and performs very well.
I bought this to replace a fellowes DS-13c which packed up after less than 2 years of moderate use. I didn't have the proof of purchase on that item and so could not claim on any warranty. I am keeping the warranty of this safe and after looking at other review on this and other items I decided to spend a lot more money in the hope that it will prove a worthy purchase and stand the test of time . First day of use and so far it works with a quiet hum as advertised . As stated in header I will update after a few months of use Update March 2017: Added a further star to make it 4 stars. I failed to update the review as promised but 3 and a half plus years on this unit is still going sturdy . Admittedly i have not used it as much as planned (otherwise i probably would have given it 5 stars ) but that's not the manufacturers fault . In the time of use it has worked fine and does what one expects of a shredder . The only maintenance required is to oil the blades . So overall this has turned out to be a very good purchase and lasted longer than my previous shredder with more use.
It's ok. and vastly better than my previous Fellowes, which was years old. With normal 70-90gsm it jammed on five sheets - but fewer than that seems fine. I suggest using the plastic bag it come in as a liner for the bin - works fine.
A good machine. It's a lot quieter than my old one, it can cut up credit cards and it cuts into small pieces not just strips. Only problem is that it gets 'tired' after about 10 minutes of solid shredding and needs to rest for about an hour before it restarts. It's a bit surprising the first time it shuts off, but just walk away and it will restart on its own.
Will cut 16 sheets of medium weight A4 no problem. If you try too many, indicator goes from orange (good quantity of sheets) to red (too many sheets). Filled a couple of bins from cold before cooldown started, however once cooled sufficiently to resume shredding, it got hot after only 7 minutes! So managed to shred for 42 minutes through three cooldown periods covering about 3 hours. Good but not that good!
