The lids do not have a tiny air hole in them. The cup with the lid on is so “air tight” that as you drink out of it, air is unable to get into the cup to fill the growing empty space. That creates a suction effect and makes it really hard to drink through the straw. A way to solve this is by poking a very small air hole in the top of the lid. (Cup lids usually have a tiny hole in them; these do not). There is a small dimple in the center of the lid, and you can use a sharp tool to poke a small air hole there. I used an awl on a cutting board to poke a tiny hole, and then a turkey skewer to make the hole a little larger.
It’s a little difficult to stick the straw into the hole because it’s so snug—but it does go in with a bit of force.
The colors are random and do not match as sets. The four cups I got are blue, green, yellow and orange; the straws are blue, green, yellow and red; and the lids are yellow, orange and two reds.
It can be dangerous for a kid to walk around with a straw sticking out of cup because if they fall, it can jam inside their mouth. These seem fairly safe because the straws are short—the cups are 4 1/8 inches high, and the straws are 5 1/4 inches.
I don’t recommend that you microwave these because (1) they are not that thick and (2) the liquid will shoot out the straw and then you have a mess to clean up.

Update: after a few months we're still using these fairly frequently. I've drilled tiny air holes in the cap to release the pressure when he's sucking so he doesn't have to release the straw to equalize the pressure in the container. Obviously this makes them less "tossable," but it's worth the trade off. I'm impressed with the durability, they've all been through the dishwasher a lot and have held up really well. Still a 4 star rating though, since I felt the need to modify them so they're usable. But I'd still recommend them to a friend.
The only thing I don't like is having to put the straw in after the liquid is in the cup. If you have the straw in, the liquid will squirt out. I know this has everything to do with it being leak proof, but it's just a bit annoying because if you forget and have the straw in and close the lid with the contents inside, it just comes all out.
Other than that, it's a great transition cup!
These cups are so affordable, as expected, all new moms are always on the go and they need to pack in advance to go out. Since these cups are so affordable, I feel like even if I bring two and lose one of them, I won't hurt from it.
I don't know why the colours of these straw cups are different, as in the lids don't match with the cups, some but not all. However, my daughter seems to love that there are different colours to look at, so I'm fine with it as long as she is.
The material of these cups are not the thickest, obviously because they're so affordable, they still feel very sturdy though! No leaks so far, unless my daughter turns the cup upside down, which leakage is expected of course. I like how the material of the cups are thin enough so I can squeeze it to get some liquid up to teach my daughter how to use them, I've only done this for a day so I can't comment if they help, but all babies are different right? Some babies learn so much quicker and some learn a little later but once they get it they get it.
Overall, these cups are a such a great deal! You have nothing to lose to try these out, for $5 it's worth it.
As some other reviews have previously said, put on your swim goggles, these cups spray drink!! You fill the cup ( not even all the way) put the lid on and drink comes shooting up out of the straw like old faithful!!
I do not recommend buying these unless you enjoy cleaning up messes . The straws are also a pain in the butt to try to get into the hole in the lid.... it is made very tight. I wouldn’t purchase again as these cups are too messy and too much of a hassle with all the farting around with the straws Etc.... Mama ain’t got time for that!
