Review

" If you're new to the world of cut-flower growing but would love to know how to get started on your own small cut-flower patch, then this handsome volume covers it all, from site selection, weed management and propagation to selecting the best, most floriferous cultivars. Plus, it's not just about the growing. Benzakein also includes a host of useful tips on getting the longest vase life out of your homegrown cut-flowers, as well as illustrated guides to creating hand-tied bouquets, flower crowns, garlands and wreaths." ― Irish Times

5.0 out of 5 stars My wife's new favourite book...
Reviewed in the United States on 15 August 2019
After hurricane Michael destroyed 50 or so trees that had previously provided wonderful privacy in our back yard I decided to make lemonade and give my wife a 125' flowerbed. This is in addition to her garden and other beds. One pattern I noted was that there seemed to be a complete lack of planning in her other beds, often leading me to wonder if what I was looking at was a flower or something I needed to Roundup. She didn't know either. The author must speak the same language as my wife, our new beds actually follow a plan which is committed to a gardening diary, and I'm impressed with her knowledge of all the plants we see at the nursery. The beds are organized and scheduled to bloom at different times. Things seem to be properly trimmed and cared for in the other beds now too. From what she's said it's that things are presented in a practical manner and without the assumption that you already know everything, and there's some out of the box suggestions on using different materials and plants in your arrangements.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great as a coffee table book
Reviewed in the United States on 8 November 2019
It is a pretty book but if you are looking for information beyond anything very general it’s not the book for you. You can get so much more information for free by reading her blog or get inspiration from Erin’s instagram page. Definitely more width than depth, so I was inspired by things she touched on but had to look for the details somewhere else. For example, the whole topic of pests and disease is captured in two paragraphs and here’s all the information given about foxgloves. I wish I had known it wasn’t as comprehensive before I bought it.
