With this appliance, you get it, a wall charger, and two sample bags. I decided to use the bags to ensure I would actually use this. In the gallon bags I placed a popular, low calorie, prepopped corn. Every time I buy one of these bags, it is always stale halfway through. In the quart bag, I placed strawberries.
By about two weeks in, I was finished with the popcorn and it was not stale at all. It took me about 5 work days to get through the strawberries and not a stitch of mold and no fermentation.
Since that point, I have purchased more bags and use them for everything. I am not sure if you are supposed to wash and reuse the bags but I do. I use warm water to ensure I maintain the integrity of the bag but haven't had any issues doing so.
The appliance comes apart fairly easily and is easily cleaned.
At first I thought it was a fluke, but I put it away fully charged, and when I take it out of the drawer, it's dead. I have to then charge it again for several hours in order to use it. If it would hold a charge, it would get 5 stars from me!
The instructions say to charge the unit for 24 hours minimum before use implying it uses the NiCad tech battery for cordless operation. I left mine on for 30 hours. There is a light to say it's charging but none to say the state of the charge. I figured 30 hours should do it.
The laugh was on me. After this time charging, the unit sealed one and a half quart sized freezer bags or, to put it another way, the battery life, at full charge, is about 35 seconds. I finished the sealing job by using it plugged in.
In sum, this unit works but only plugged in. The battery is pointless and I'd rather have a device without it that says it needs to be plugged in to household current and thus save the bulk, weight and expense of the useless battery. Also those who don't stumble upon the Ziploc solution will have to spend a good deal of time fussing with the FoodSaver brand bags.
I'll keep and use it because I don't find having to keep it plugged in that much of a penalty but I'm not thrilled either.
