4.0 out of 5 stars I want to love it

I want to love this camera! It’s great really, as a hybrid instant camera. It has unique modes like collage, double exposure, time lapse collage, and color isolation (among at least a dozen other filters) that you can apply before printing. You can even pick images from short video recordings on the camera! The SQ20 is innovative and it *could* rock so hard if it was better at catching light. You can adjust brightness and darkness manually, but the images, if too bright, appear overexposed, and if too dark are barely visible. Outdoors, it’d be nice if there was greater contrast between shadows and natural light, too. . I’ll be trying images with a LED ring light soon to compare. This is a GREAT camera for folks who just want control over their instant photos and don’t nitpick about quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for memory keeping!!
Reviewed in the United States on 18 February 2020
I got this FujiFilm Instax SQ20 off of Amazon. It was in the condition of “Used- Like New” with only the packaging damaged, and I made sure that the seller was an Amazon Warehouse. I went through all of the reviews prior to purchasing and decided to take the risk even if someone got a damaged SQ20 when they ordered a “Used- Like New” product as well. I’ll have to say I got lucky cause mine came in perfect. Really, only the box was damaged so the description was spot on. I just wished they provided photos all of the time so that people wouldn’t feel so nervous about used purchases. Anyway, when I first used the camera, there was something wrong. I got scared cause a film was stuck. I searched for help videos but none were on the SQ20 and none were stuck the way mine was. Again I was lucky because I was able to get it out; I squeezed the Polaroid just a little (like how you squeeze the camera closed after loading new film in it) and that did the trick. I guess the mechanism/ rollers (or whatever it is) couldn’t grab the film to make it go up and out of the camera because the film that was stuck was a bit sideways. It couldn’t go straight up because it was slightly unaligned and had a bent corner (imagine trying to put a star in a star shaped hole but you can’t cause the shape you’re holding is slightly turned so it can’t align and go through). I had to open the camera, pull out the film cartridge and put it back in multiple times until I finally tried giving the camera a slight squeeze and it came out. That wasted just one film and of course it was the slightly bent one that was exposed. Of course I hoped that it was just the film and not the camera. I’m on my third pack and I think it’s safe to say that it was just that one pack of 10. So the camera is 100% in fantastic and working condition.

As for photo quality it could definitely be better, but on a scale of 1-10 I would say it’s a 7.5/10. It doesn’t do as well in darker lighting (even if it’s at night and any light is on), but it just makes the photos look more vintage. I took photos at SeaWorld under natural lighting and the shots were great so it’s even better during the daytime. Either way it’s worth it cause you can always adjust the lighting of the shots you take before AND after you take the photos anyway! And you can print as much of the same thing as you want! Worth the $120 I spent on it! The photo samples are scanned polaroids from my SQ20 camera, the colors are better in person, my scanner just sucks!
