aber die Kombination aus Hersteller-Oberfläche und Original-OpenWRT-Unterbau ist nicht optimal, sobald man an fortgeschrittenere Themen rangeht. Die Einrichtung als OpenVPN-Client in einer Site-to-Site Konfiguration mit Shared-Key war defacto unmöglich. Der Hersteller-Assistent akzeptiert nur Konfigurationsdateien externer VPN-Anbieter, während der OpenWRT-Assistent zwingend ein NAT auf das interne VPN-Interface legt und somit den Datenfluss nur in eine Richtung erlaubt.

Wie gesagt, das Gerät erfüllt im Normalfall sicher seinen Zweck und gerade die OpenWRT-Basis hat einen besonderen Charme. Sobald man aber von den vorgegebenen Usecases abweicht und die volle Power abrufen will, hat man eine stundenlange Sucherei vor sich.

way better than a normal $500 4g travel router

This router has most if not all the functions I was looking for in a travel router: portability, 4g sim and sdcard support. Other pleasantly surprisingly features it offers are the OpenWRT plugin support, OpenVPN client, as well as the ability to view SMS through the web interface, something which other routers may or may not offer (and which reviews on the web do not mention). It also has zigbee support, which I hadn't tested it yet. It doesn't run on batteries but 12v which is excellent so is easy to hook up to the car, or a diy 18650 battery pack I made to make it portable. I own two 4g mobile travel routers in the past but both died because the battery died, and since it was using non-standard batteries, there is no way of replacing them. Since then I avoid products that do not use standard replaceable batteries. This is an excellent router with better value than the other big branded ones; wished I knew about it sooner.

Ich habe mir sowohl den MiFi EC25-E, also auch den GL-X750 gekauft. Die Einrichtung der Geräte war sehr einfach und ging schnell von der Hand. Durch die Möglichkeit der 5GHz Nutzung des GL-X750 ist dieser nochmal ein gutes Stück schneller und stabiler als der Mifi. Außerdem hat der GLX auch eine bessere CPU (QCA9531, @6500MHz SoC) und mehr Speicherkapazität (DDR2 128MB/ FLASH 16MB) als der Mifi. Um ein vpn zu benutzen, muss man ganz einfach den vpn-file vom vpn-Anbieter ziehen und sich dann einfach verbinden.

Von mir eine klare Empfehlung!

Das Gerät macht das was es soll sehr gut und die Benutzeroberfläche ist fast perfekt. Für das nachfolgende gibt es keinen Punktabzug, da das Gerät nicht explicit für diesen Zweck gedacht ist.

Vorsicht beim LTE:
Einer der Hauptgründe des Kaufs war der versuch einen besseren LTE-Empfang zu bekommen. Dafür ist es nicht gedacht und bekommt dem entsprechend ohne eine zusätzliche Antenne ein gleich starkes Signal wie ein aktuelles (gutes) Handy.
