The illustrations are quite catchy, but the writing is a bit MEH! Didn’t retain the attention of my child, who is normally very excited to read other books. If you are looking to build the language skills for your child, this is not the book for you.

The bold, bright colors of India leap off the page in this fresh and funny picture book retelling of how Ganesha came to help write the epic poem of Hindu literature, the Mahabharata. Ganesha is just like any other kid, except that he has the head of an elephant and rides around on a magical mouse. And he loves sweets, but when Ganesha insists on biting into a super jumbo jawbreaker laddoo, his tusk breaks off! With the help of the wise poet Vyasa, and his friend Mr. Mouse, Ganesha learns that what seems broken can be quite useful after all. With vibrant, graphic illustrations, expressive characters, and offbeat humor, this is a wonderfully inventive rendition of a classic tale.

My daughter's favourite book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 29 July 2020Verified Purchase
I wanted to introduce my one year old daughter to stories about Hinduism so I purchased a number of books - this is is by far the best one. The modern illustrations are incredible and the story is entertaining, relatable and informative (without being preachy). My daughter just lights up when I read it to her, despite her not fully understanding the story yet. I wish there were more children's books like this one!

Great book.

I bought this for my nearly 4 year old and 6 year old. It’s such a great read and informative in its own way. The kids loved this book, and my 6 year old read to his sister. He read it with ease, and the pictures are so great in the book. Definitely a firm favourite.

Great Story/ Gift for Ages 4- 8
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 4 January 2016Verified Purchase
Great book, well written with lovely "pixar-title-sequence-style" illustrations. My 5 year old enjoyed it immensely.
The writers have taken some artistic licence with the story, taking the legend of how Ganesha broke his tusk and reinventing it in playful way that keeps it relevant and makes it approachable to modern day kids of any faith. I love the fact that the book acknowledges this within its last pages - I think this insertion will be very informative for older readers.

Top class illustrations for kids.

One of the best illustrated books out there. You can clearly see the imaginary that went into the illustrations to tell the visual grandeur of the indian god Ganesha.

Great way for kids and adults to understand a part of Hinduism
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 30 September 2020Verified Purchase
Great way to engage the little ones about Ganesh and his role. The story is fun and exciting and opens more questions about other Hindu tales and raises good questions from kids about gods and ladoo!
