Works great! Took me a little bit to figure out how to use it since it didn’t come with instructions. Stick a plate inside the plunger, pattern side down facing away from the handle. Place on the table, push down on the plunger handle and then turn the handle clockwise to screw the plate onto the plunger. When you lift the plunger, the plate should come up with it. To remove the plate: place the plunger on the table, push down on the plunger, and turn counterclockwise.
I used all 6 plates for the larger molds marked as 100g. Note that the pattern on the Mooncake will puff out and fade a bit if a generous coating of egg wash is applied.
I also noticed that the square mold tended to show more of the red bean interior compared to circular one, though it’s my fault for making the skin too thin.
Overall, this product is easy to use and will give your mooncakes a professional and store-bought look!
I made a snowskin dough with a red bean filling. I followed my recipe and scaled each dough at 30 grams for the smaller size mold.
The moon cakes came out great! I found that a spritz of pan spray helped release the cake from the print. The recipe suggested brushing rice flour into the mold but I found this muddled the design, and the spray worked much better.
My only complaint is that the disks do not really lock into place and thus you have to replace it after every cake.
I can't wait to try this with a baked variety, or even to use as a cookie press for short breads. Very pleased with the purchase.
