got it for boyfriend as a gift. he loves the "dummy" books. he already has the medical school stuff lined up, but there is alot of other great tips and advice in the book that you may otherwise overlook. great guidance and step by step instruction . i would suggest it for anyone headed toward a possible med school path. or even for a parent of the student headed on that path, just to be aware.
Long story short my son thought he could get into medical school like nothing, I got him the book and it opened his eyes and oh look at that mom might know something. If you have teenagers looking at a medical future get them this book and tell them to start studying!!!!

This book is a thorough, well-written guide and reference. Med school applicants (and premeds) should definitely get it and use it as they apply.
As a reference, it covers every topic related to applying. I won't try to restate them here, but basically nothing is left out - everything leading up to applying, types of medical schools, how to choose where to apply, etc. Of course every detail of the application itself is covered. The personal statement section is very detailed and helpful.
Also, it covers every type of applicant - high achievers going for the best schools and anyone struggling to get in anywhere. The advice isn't just the basic stuff that every book has - it addresses the subtleties that really can make the difference.
There is no spin or gimmicks that some books have. Just a good, solid book packed with info and advice. Has more detail than almost any other book on applying to med school.
As is typical with Dummies books, it's easy to read with useful bullet lists, tables, etc.
Bottom line - get it if you are premed or applying.
I bought this for my boyfriend, who is a premed student, and it has wonderful for him. It reassured him that he was on the right track with his classes and doing everything just right. It provides an easy-to-follow timeline on what activities to do when to optimize his chances of getting into med school.
