Grandpa's Great Escape
David Walliams, hailed as 'the heir to Roald Dahl' by The Spectator, burst onto the American scene with the Demon Dentist. The children’s author is back with this high-flying adventure about a boy and his grandfather, perfect for fans of Jeff Kinney and Rachel Renee Russell.
Grandpa is Jack’s favourite person in the world. It doesn’t matter that he wears his slippers to the supermarket, serves Spam a la Custard for dinner, and often doesn’t remember Jack’s name. But then Grandpa starts to believe he’s back in World War II, when he was a Spitfire fighter pilot, and he’s sent to live in an old folk’s home run by the sinister Matron Swine. Now it’s up to Jack to help Grandpa plot a daring escape!
Since 2008 David Walliams has taken the children’s literary world by storm. His eight novels have been translated into over forty languages and have sold over eight million copies in the UK alone. Walliams’ books have achieved unprecedented critical acclaim and countless broadsheet reviewers have compared him to his all-time hero, Roald Dahl.
Born in London, Tony Ross went to art school in Liverpool. His cartoons have appeared in famous publications the world over. His first book, Hugo And The Wicked Winter, was published in 1972. Tony has since written over 100 books and illustrated over 2000! His creations Towser and The Little Princess have been turned into TV series.

I actually cried at the end. It was a perfect read in my opinion: extremely entertaining and sentimental. Plus not cobbled together from lots of other stories like Harry Potter.
