‘Dominion’ takes place some time between the films ‘Godzilla: King of Monsters’ and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’. Exactly when is a little uncertain. In terms of the films this is meant to be a gap of several years. But in the real world this is a fairly thin volume with minimal text which leaps from one event/fight to the next with little indication if there is much of a gap or basically none at all in between.
There’s not really much of a storyline to this graphic novel. It is really just a string of confrontations between Godzilla and one Titan after another who, basically, are not submitting to his will as the Apex/Alpha. This is an account of Godzilla traversing the world as he deals with territorial disputes, renegade Titans and human interference.
The story comes from the perspective of Godzilla himself, which is probably a major contributing factor in not being able to determine the passage of time or the storyline just being a string of confrontations. However, this is also the story’s greatest strength as it is quite a novel and intriguing approach to portray things in this way. It is a more entertaining aspect of the story than the actual confrontations. You don’t quite get the spectacle captured on the big screen and as most of the fights are in the sea there isn’t such a grasp of the size of Titans.
In between the confrontations there’s a little bit about Godzilla worrying about where he will feed and rest after the destruction of the Atlantis type city in ‘King of Monsters’ as well as some reiteration of the Alpha role of Godzilla.
There is also a touch of the looming threat of King Kong as a rival. There isn’t a great deal made about this so it isn’t exactly a prequal to ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’. However, the events here are referred to and integrated more into the opening stages of the novelisation of ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ which is more extensive than that onscreen.
Predominantly dealing with ideas covered in the films, ‘Dominion’ doesn’t really add much to the ‘Monsterverse’ franchise. It’s a pleasant enough minor distraction that will be read in well under an hour. The price tag is thus quite high for what it is.

An OK in between monster romp

Nice art, nice book, OK stand alone story with the only thing tying it to the films being GZ and Monarch. Otherwise, not a lot to add.
If you're a fan, you'll probably enjoy it, but don't feel this is a must have to make the films any more to their story.
Like with the Kong one, a nice appetiser between the movies or as a side story

Monster art work, but lacked storyline to make it well worth reading. I went through this mag in less than half an hour.
