I've ordered this product many times before without fault (it's fantastic), however as others have also commented the recent items being sent out are often defective. The typically smooth and malleable material is instead incredibly hard and granular, as if the product has begun to crystallise, making it impossible to apply properly.
It's hard to say whether this is due being out of date, stored incorrectly or a bad batch sent from the manufacturer. Either way I encourage Amazon to investigate and dispose of current stock affected.
I thoroughly recommend Claymation as a product, I also recommend people look elsewhere to buy at this time (Feb 2020). Buying here currently is a roll of the dice.
I’ve used this product frequently over the years and have previously purchased from Amazon - never had any complaints - in fact I usually love this product as it has such control and gives great texture to my hair. However, I purchased it here early last month ... the consistency of the product has been awful. It doesn’t rub into your hands and into a paste properly. I’ve gone through this product so much more quickly than I usually would. It usually lasts 2-3 months or more but the poor quality of this product has meant I’ve had to use more.
I was considering repurchasing here again but having read a similar review I am now hesitant. At £18 a pop it should have some quality control.
It is superior to supermarket waxes for sure.
Comparing to DaWax, It definitely had less tug when you run a comb/fingers through your hair after you apply it.
It probably has between 50-75% of the firm hold you would expect from DaWax.
The hold would last working hours of a day.
The finish is matte.
After rubbing it rigorously into the palm of my hands, and, applying to the back & middle of my hair first, on some occasions I did notice small amounts of residue on the top of my hair, could sometimes be fixed by rubbing with hand though would result in unpleasant tugging from fingers or comb when recorrecting.
Could sometimes still have a bit of tug if you were applying the product back to front, or, you needed to correct something. Though definitely no way near as bad doing this with DaWax.
While a working day's worth is way ahead of most hair products like this, may not quite last playing or going to a gig after work, it wont necessarily look bad, though certainly not as perfect as minute 0.
Though this is one of the best I've used, I would probably try the slightly firmer hold product Hanz makes next, but, for now gone back to Da Wax. Sometimes you just need that little bit more hold as sometimes days can be longer than you think they'll be & out of your control.
It definitely makes your hair malleable compared to other clays but I feel for the price, it doesn't have the same effect as other clays on the market for fine hair. The hold is an odd one too but in a sort of good way. Somehow my hair feel greasy but has a decent hold to it rather than being unmoveable due to the hair feeling harder with other clays. I think this is the only good thing about it. Otherwise the product itself is definitely way over-hyped and almost impossible to apply, even warmed up in the hands. I would personally not buy this again. The main drawback is how greasy it makes the hair feel. For medium to thick hair it might be fine, but for anyone with fine - avoid.
