The feeder itself falls short on its design - one, the top and tray VERY easily come apart which means you could see 7 lbs of feed hit the ground and become 7 lbs of dirt. So, I recommend you immediately use epoxy to glue the two parts together. This will not effect your ability to wash it. Second, the trough is too shallow, it is way too easy for the hungry enthusiastic chickens to knock out all that expensive feed all over the floor. So, I raised the trough with a lip of duct tape about 1 inch higher. Now, the feeder is perfect in every way.

This is a nice, sturdy chicken feeder. Easy to fill and it can handle my 7 chickens easily. The ONLY drawback is the lack of a lid. When the rains come, I always have to move it in under something. I ended up taking a cheap plastic tray that you would use under a plant to capture excess water, flipping it around, and cutting a long slot for the hanging wire to fit through. It provides some cover for the feed, but water still gets in - just not as much. Designers, if you could just fix this one flaw this would be be a super-awesome chicken feeder.

SEARCHING FOR THIS VERY FEEDER!

I have spent way too much time looking for a feeder for my new flock of 28 chicks. This one is perfect. They will be ready to go into their new lot/coop in about 2 weeks. This feeder is heavy duty, the hanger is positioned on the inside so the chicks can't get caught in the wire. I also like the sturdy tabs extending from the bottom of the top section to help keep the chicks from scratching out the food. The bottom can be removed for cleaning, the bottom also secures on tightly. I ordered the 'Little Giant PC22 Poultry Feeder Cover' also. It will fit over this feeder. You can run a small chain with a hook on it through the whole on the cover to keep chicks from getting on top of it and to keep the food nice and fresh. (You may have to make the whole in the cover a tad bit larger, you can then raise it up to fill the feeder and back down to cover the food. I purchased one to see how good it was; I will be getting another one just like it. KENTUCKY

Modified for wild bird feeding

Sick and tired of useless, poorly made, bird feeders. Half way decent wild bird feeders cost as much as a tank of gas.

Bought three of the 10#'s and modified them to use a 16 inch, bird feeder rain guard. Hung them and it's great.

Took off the attached holder and installed wire to both hang it and fit through the rain guard hole. Taped the hole so rain and snow wouldn't melt into the feeder and ruin the seed.

Holds lots of hulled sunflower seeds with plenty of stations for all birds... Needed a squirrel guard though.... it was too easy for them to get at the seeds and the hulled seeds are expensive.

Worked so well I can only imagine they'd be wonderful for chickens.

This feeder is by far the best feeder I have ever used for my chickens. As many chickens, my bird would fling their food all over the place. When I saw this feeder I thought I would give it a shot. I didn't expect much but within the first few days I noticed a big difference in how much feed was being wasted. There weren't piles of feed all over the ground under the feeder and the feeder wasn't empty within a day/day and a half.
I purchased a second and I am so glad I did!! I have saved so much money on feed! I am going through almost half the amount of feed that I was with my previous feeders.

I have seen a lot of people complain that there is no lid. There are a lot of feeders that don't have lids so I would not count that as a con against this feeder.
