How to Use Your Bagel Guillotine

Step OneRemove handle portion of the Bagel Guillotine from the base by grasping the top of the handle with one hand and holding the base with the other hand. |
Step TwoPlace the bagel the base. Then position the handle directly over the base, with the blade pointing downwards. The handle will 'sleeve' over the base. Push straight down until the handle portion meets the base. |
Step ThreeHolding the bottle of the base with one hand, life the handle portion up. Then remove your perfectly sliced bagel. If the bagel sticks, use a utensil to push down of the bagel to lose it. |
Recommendations
Never slice frozen or stale bagels as they will dull the blade. Slice your bagels before you freeze them or thaw frozen bagels before slicing.
Steamy, moist or 'sticky' bagels may compress or squash during slicing; allow bagels to cool off before slicing.
Flavored bagels may leave a sticky residue on the blade. Regular cleaning allows for the Bagel Guillotine to work at its maximum efficiency.

I purchased this 5 years ago. It has worked fairly well as a way to slice bagels. It has been primarily cleaned by hand rinsing with the occasional clean in the dishwasher (it says dishwasher safe). I realized today that the plastic on the body is degrading where the two parts slip together. Consequently, it leaves a fine dust of white plastic powder after each use. The white plastic dust presumably gets on the bagel, too - Nasty. Throwing this out now. I'm not sure how long I've been eating plastic dust with my bagels.

I was looking for something that would make it easy for my children to cut bagels. This product is not it. We got some plain bagels from Winco Foods, nothing fancy. If you look at pictures the bagel is bigger than the slot. The base of the slicer is narrower in the center if you look from the top of holder. Why is it narrow in the center. This causes the bagel to rip as you push down the blade. The bagel gets wedged inside the holder. When the blade is lifted, one side of bagel stays inside the blade compartment. Now you have to put your fingers inside to get that slice of bagel out - never mind the warning sign blade is sharp. As you can see from photo, the top of bagel is all torn up.Reviewed in the United States on 1 December 2020
This was a second replacement as the first one had a huge notch in blade. We didn’t use it so we don’t know if the center of the holder was narrower or not.
Since this was our second try, we are not trying a third one. The quality control on this product is lacking.
I wanted this so the kids would be safe when cutting bagels, not! This is more dangerous than an actual knife. Don’t waste your $$$ on this particular product
Returning this one as well, our second one!
