This books goes off the deep end pretty quick. It covers things like telekinesis, teleportation, and mind reading with a quick, this person 200 years ago said he could do this, proved by this other person 200 years ago who claimed to have seen it. Many of the "examples" of people with special powers have serious allegations of fraud that aren't mentioned. It should also be noted that the James Randi foundation has a million dollar reward for being able to demonstrate any of the X-Men abilities talked about in this book and has yet to be claimed.
I was hoping this book would cover a bit on Simulation Theory but no such luck.

The Whole in Every Part

A conceptual breakthrough for consciousness researchers and new physics theoreticians. Puncturing the Brain equals Mind theory, Talbot shows that we are greater than our physical boundaries, and rolls in new science into the equation, that man and cosmos are part of an interconnected hologram, with the whole in every part. Neuroscientist Karl Pribram, initially in collaboration with physicist David Bohm, reached the conclusion that the brain is a hologram. Dr. Bohm felt that the universe was was a hologram and not an objective reality, infinitely interconnected. In science, we learn about things by breaking it down to its parts, but the cosmic superhologram cannot be studied this way, because it is holonomic rather than reductive. We must put the mystery together. At the highest level, stars in the sky, fish in the sea, the heart in our chest, pulse as one entity. Time and space are illusions, because past, present and future exist simultaneously.

Making the complex readable

I enjoyed reading Talbot's interpretations of Quantum Physics, even if the Holographic metaphor did at times feel a bit overwrought. He has a gift for making complex ideas quite readable.
At the quantum level, it becomes evident that separateness is an illusion. I've heard that before--that all things are vibrantly, dynamically interconnected--but Talbot helped me see it in fresh new ways. He explores how different thinkers illuminate this profound insight.
Especially powerful to me was his explanation of physicist David Bohm's view that space is not empty; it's chockfull of energy. I've been drawn for years to the idea of the "fertile void" in my life. It has allowed me to take risks--such as leaving job and home to travel the world--knowing that something will always come. In fact, I now look at most any circumstance, even the brain surgery I had, as an opportunity for something new to arise. I love thinking about how this disposition is actually lining up with the way the universe works at the subatomic level.
Ultimately, this book asks the question: What is Reality? And it shows how Quantum Physics is drawing the conclusion that Reality is infinitely more than we perceive with our conscious minds, that it's interconnected and infinite and limitless. In other words, science is confirming what mystics have said for thousand of years.

The supernatural happenings in history explained in a scientific theory. Prepare to have your mind blown!

I loved this book.
The Holographic Universe starts out with some fascinating explanations of holograms, quantum fields, and neurology, and the author then explains why he believes that the entire universe is a hologram. This is within the first three chapters.
The remainder of the book is a collection of fascinating true stories, taken from history, scientists, gurus, other people, and his own experiences, that seem to support his holographic universe theory. I don't know if I am convinced that the universe is a hologram, but i can at least say that the universe shares some qualities with a hologram, and I'm open to the possibility. It is fascinating.
The human brain is a hologram. The world is a hologram. Humanity is a hologram. The entire universe is a hologram. Everything we experience is holographic. These are the claims expressed - quite well - within the pages of The Holographic Universe.
Topics explored include telekinesis, psychic abilites, NDEs, OBEs, fire-proof humans, and even a human's direct ability to control the world around them. One particularly awesome story was told of a Shaman (don't know if that's the accurate word) who could make trees disappear from existence. Wow!
This is supernatural reality at its finest. The Holographic Universe blew my mind. Science, wonder, reality, and what it means to be human are all explored in depth in this book. I loved it.

A great way to learn about holographic theory

This book is truly fascinating. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I almost read it in one sitting, because it is so insightful. This book covers a lot of topics and seeks to prove how holographic theory helps explain that which is unexplainable. It references many scientific studies, but is written in a very engaging, easy to understand way. If you love science, and question the world around you, you will likely enjoy this book.
