Digital Code is iTunes Only - Stay Away
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 2 March 2022Verified Purchase
I despise MGM. Every other movie that says it includes a "Digital Code" provides on for Movies Anywhere, which gives you tons of options on how to watch the movie. This one has a purple insert and marking on the jacket to appear like it is for Movies Anywhere as is standard, but it is only redeemable through iTunes and playable on an Apple device or a device that supports the AppleTV app. If you care able digital like many of us do now days, look elsewhere and refuse to support MGM's with your dollars due to their decision to lock your digital copy to the Apple ecosystem.

House of Greatness
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 20 July 2022Verified Purchase
These days it seems great films are few and far between. So when you finally see one it tends to blow one away. That is what this film did for me, and, for that matter, my Filipino wife who doesn't like very many American films. I suppose there would be many who wouldn't care much about the film assuming it is largely about "brand." But that would be a misconception. Gucci IS, of course, a major brand, but that is far from what the film is truly about, although the history of the brand, its beginnings, the family trials and tribulations gone through to protect it are at the movie's core. Lady Gaga is so extraordinary the performance defies description by superlatives alone. Beyond her stunning beauty and talent, you cannot take your eyes off her, amazed the created character is acting it is SO real. I cannot believe how this performance---along with the other incredible performances---were so Oscar-snubbed. It is enough to make me NEVER trust the Oscars! Adam Driver along with all other extraordinary supporting roles from Salma Hayek, Jack Huston, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto and Al Pacino all contribute brilliantly to this powerful film largely about the misgiving of expectations of the wealthy, the power of the delusion of love and of its inherent motive, greed, and the failing belief in the superiority of power. Then, there's the subject of trust, and what ordinary people who become extraordinary are capable of once it is violated. Ridley Scott. Say no more. He is directing genius and always promises to deliver a great film. House of Gucci IS a great film and, in my opinion, stands far and above any other film that was nominated for or won the 2022 Academy Awards in all categories. Prepare to be blown away.

Beware the digital copy, it is for iTunes
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 7 March 2022Verified Purchase
Movies Anywhere is the standard for digital copies... This digital copy is not that. It will lead you down a winding road with lots of murky twists and turns to get your iTunes/AppleTV copy. Let's say you are trying to do this on an iPad, boy does the device not like it. I ended up having to open my browser, Apple TV, and iTunes store all in an attempt to give it what it wanted (was going to try blood or a flesh sacrifice next). Finally got the code to work only for the video to not to show up in my purchases. It would show up on the computer in the AppleTV app, but not the app... for days! And it still isn't syncing across to my other apps. Way too much work for something that should be an industry standard when listed as "digital copy". If it is going to be iTunes, SAY SO! I would have just gotten the DVD at that point, I feel like I was misled since it was not stated as to be for iTunes online or on the images of the packaging (this would lead me to believe it would be for either Movies Anywhere or Vudu where all of my stuff lives!). So now I am angry, haven't watched it yet since I am still working on getting it on my firestick which is too full to download the AppleTV app to see if it miraculously shows up there. My two-star rating is based on the fact that I am sure I will love it once I watch it between Adam Driver and Jeremy Irons, it is a sure bet.

Entertaining Movie
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 22 April 2022Verified Purchase
The great cast here is what primarily drew me in, and I was not disappointed. Lady Gaga is nothing short of terrific, it’s a shame she wasn’t recognized with an Oscar nom because she definitely deserved it. In a limited role the great Al Pacino is also memorable, for me there’s no one better at delivering great emotion as he does in a couple of scenes where he expresses both anger and heartbreak. The rest of the cast also delivers very, very well. Much has been made of the so called “phony” Italian accents, but to me that’s a big nothing. When I see a movie I want to be entertained, and this Ridley Scott directed film does just that. My only disappointment, which is a minor one, is that the end of the film abruptly goes from the climactic incident to the courtroom verdict. I would’ve liked to have seen at least a little bit of the investigation that led to that verdict (which I had to investigate on my own to find out), but I guess that would’ve made a lengthy film even lengthier. I have no problem at all with very long movies, as long as they’re good, but I know audiences aren’t always so fond. All in all, if you want to be entertained for a couple of hours plus by a stellar cast, this movie is for you.
