Product description

Review

...This is a goofy and exciting tale of an underdog who proves that brains can be just as important as brawn. Kids will hoot at the ridiculous names and sympathize with Hiccup's exasperation with his truly obstinate but strangely lovable dragon. A delightful read.--School Library Journal

Praise for How to Train Your Dragon:
IRA and CBC Children's Choices List 2005
Short chapters, clever slapstick, kid-pleasing character names and goofy, childlike drawings will keep even reluctant readers turning these pages--and chuckling as they go.--Publishers Weekly

A narrative rich in dragon muck... genuinely fierce [and] intelligent.--Kirkus

This hilarious farce will appeal to heroic fiction fans.--Booklist

1.0 out of 5 stars Rude, crude and poorly written.
Reviewed in the United States on 5 September 2020
I’m surprised at all of the good reviews on here. These books are ridiculous. The writing sounds like a second grader narrated it, and it’s FULL of rude comments by kids and adults, name-calling, bullying and poop/fart talk. It’s an insult to the intelligence of our children.
I once had a child development teacher say, “Have you ever seen Rugrats? Would you invite Angelica to your house for a play date? No? Then don’t let your kids sit around and watch her on TV because they’re learning from her.”
It was good advice. I would not want the Hairy Hooligans over for a play date, and I do NOT want my kids learning from them. Absolutely obnoxious.
I’m hoping it’s not too late to return ours because they really are the worst.

Our family has fallen in love with Hiccup Horrendous Hadduck III, the unlikely hero of all the Hairy Hooligan tales. Written from Hiccup's perspective as an old man about the days that shaped him into the great Viking hero that he has become. Very funny and entertaining. We read these as a family and I think my husband and I enjoy them more than our young boys.
