Loved it for the first few hours, until the plastic ring snapped from just lifting the bottle like normal. Already broken within the first few hours of using it :(
UPDATE 02/10/20: Iron Flask reached out to me and sent me a replacement in midnight black as well as an olive green color. This company really cares about customer satisfaction. Changing my review and will definitely deal with this company in the future. Thank you.
Definitely better than carrying my 40oz bottle by the plastic part on the lid. No complaints. All the survival stuff works as advertised. Would be a great idea for anyone using this on hikes or traveling, I personally don't need if in the gym but hey, it doesn't hurt to have and doesn't add any bulk so I'm not mad at it.
P.S. Mine came with instructions that said to put the plastic ring in hot water for 20-30 seconds and without that tip, Thor himself couldn't put this on. I tried it and felt like I Just went to war with a stamp and lost. Save yourself the pain and put it in hot water so it stretches then put it on.
I just bought this to go with the brand new 64oz cotton candy colored IronFlask bottle I bought. I just put this on last night and this morning I noticed that the bottle where the carabiner sits is scratched up. So now my pretty brand new bottle has all of these scratches on it and it really bums me out. Took the carabiner off of this one and will on the other one I bought for my new bubble gum colored bottle so I don’t mess that one up too. Hopefully this warns others to take that off if they don’t want to scratch their bottles up.
When I first put these on my kids' water bottles I was super irritated because the water bottles kept leaking everywhere. Then I realized that I'm an idiot and didn't put it on right. 😂 Make sure you attach it UNDER the very bottom lip of the top. Kind of hard to do, but I put the side opposite the clip on first, then pulled the clip downward and it snapped right in place. Duh! This is one of my must haves for the summer. I can clip these on to any backpack and my kids put them on the handlebars of their bikes and scooters while they ride. Super pumped I found these!
The design is really good but it's kind of hit or miss with durability and quality both from my own experience and what I've read.
The plastic ring is easy to slip on if you sit it in hot water for about a minute and it is a very secure fit once it cools down and sets.
The paracord braid is very robust and fully supports the weight of my full 40oz flask even with my concerns about the securing end.
The braid may need some extra glue on the ends to keep it from unraveling down the line. I'm unsure if mine just slipped through QA without fully secured ends or if this is intended. The ends are nicely fused and won't fray easily but I don't get into emergency situations where I would need easy access to the full length of paracord so I would rather have some gorilla glue holding the braid secure.
My handle came with a faulty compass (air pocket trapped inside large enough to unlevel the disc) and the whistle is very quiet but those features aren't critical to my lifestyle, they're just aesthetic considerations to me.
I really like the utilitarian design overall and the hidden fire sparker is very clever. The handle comes with a small carabiner flip for securing it to a bag or belt, but I wouldn't use it as the sole load bearing clip for my flask.
I ordered the black paracord for my pink iron flask and got maybe 2 months of use out of it before the plastic part that wraps around the bottle snapped in half when I picked up my bottle one day. I'm a nurse so I use my water bottle constantly and was a little sad that the cord broke. If you're one of those people who carry a million things in/out at a time to avoid taking multiple trips, you understand how convenient this thing was to wear around my wrist while carrying a ton of other things haha. Luckily customer service was AMAZING. I emailed them with a picture of my broken paracord and order number and they got back to me later on that night asking me to pick out a new cord and they'd ship it out to me for free! Unfortunately, they didn't have any black cords left so I had to choose a different color but that's okay, I love my new one! 5/5 stars for amazing customer service, the new cord, and just for being an overall amazing company. I will continue to buy from this brand for this exact reason!
The first day I used this product in my 64 oz iron flask bottle, the handle dropped the water bottle and dented the bottom of the bottle. I was so upset thinking I was securely placing the handle correctly and all of sudden baaannnggg. There should be a better to securely attach this handle to the bottle. It was not intuitively otherwise It would have never dropped to the floor. The mechanism to secure the handle is not thick, very flimsy. I am still using the handle but I check every time I fill up the bottle with water. This seems like an after thought product.
I would give it four stars because the compass fell off and broke when I dropped my Iron Flask, but I didn't know it came with a compass until I received it in the mail. It does look odd with an empty space where the compass should be. I like the Flint and whistle that comes with the Paracord handle and the black Paracord itself. It's a great accessory everyone should add to their Iron Flask.
Compass doesn't work and the center pole of the clip is just magnesium not a striker so good luck finding fint in the wilds. Rape whistle and tiny sharp thingy are pretty cool though. I'm looking forward to using the whistle! I keep hanging out in downtown seattle but not a single taker. Maybe it's because i have a tiny sharp thingy on my water bottle.
It's quite a value for what it is. I came with a little oil filled compass, not sure if it works really well yet, a tiny ferro rod and what could be a tiny serrated edge or steel in the buckle, along with a whistle that is quite loud on the buckle as well. It works really well as described, I'm not sure about the plastic and durability yet but the loop is wide enough even for my large hands and it has the buckle release if it got snagged or anything as well.
