I ordered the black paracord for my pink iron flask and got maybe 2 months of use out of it before the plastic part that wraps around the bottle snapped in half when I picked up my bottle one day. I'm a nurse so I use my water bottle constantly and was a little sad that the cord broke. If you're one of those people who carry a million things in/out at a time to avoid taking multiple trips, you understand how convenient this thing was to wear around my wrist while carrying a ton of other things haha. Luckily customer service was AMAZING. I emailed them with a picture of my broken paracord and order number and they got back to me later on that night asking me to pick out a new cord and they'd ship it out to me for free! Unfortunately, they didn't have any black cords left so I had to choose a different color but that's okay, I love my new one! 5/5 stars for amazing customer service, the new cord, and just for being an overall amazing company. I will continue to buy from this brand for this exact reason!
I take my 64 oz iron flask with me everywhere and it isn't exactly light when it's completely full of water! I have found that this handle is an absolutely must have accessory for this size of bottle. The first one I ordered broke after about a week of light use (it's not like I was swinging it around). The plastic ring just snapped (see pics). They replaced it for me right away and the second one I was sent is still going strong a couple months later!
I really love it and ABSOLUTELY recommend it especially if you've got a larger sized bottle and take it everywhere you go like I do, but you should be aware that it's a bit of a pain (literally) to "install". The first time I just powered it on with my fingers. The second time I used the hot water method that they recommend if you struggle to get it put on. I suggest you go straight to the hot water method from the start as I feel like that made a big difference in the degree of difficulty.
I took off a star because the first one broke, but I like to give the benefit of the doubt that I got a dud and give credit for a swift replacement that has been great ever since. If you have an iron flask you won't be sad that you have this strap. TRUST!
I sincerely hope this review has been helpful to someone else! And yes, I paid full price for it. Feel free to ask any questions!
Just purchased the paracord handle for my war-scarred 64oz. Definitely makes it easier to carry with as much ice water I drink. I’m not one to leave reviews because I feel some people are too bias with their opinions towards a company and whatever they’re selling. But I do stand behind Iron Flask and their products. Remind me what’s a yeti again?
I have previously owned a hydro flask which I absolutely loved. When I had to leave work for distance learning as a teacher, I forgot to grab my water bottle. I wanted to order a new one but the price tag of the hydro flask was not sitting well with me. I looked up comparative products and stumbled upon the Iron Flask. I got it very quickly in the mail and immediately put it to the test. It keeps my water ice cold for 24 hours or longer. The straw lid is my favorite part. I loved that it came with this without having to pay a lot more like I would with other products. The product looks great, and it feels great to carry around. I highly recommend the Iron Flask to anyone that is looking for a new water bottle at an affordable price.
The first day I used this product in my 64 oz iron flask bottle, the handle dropped the water bottle and dented the bottom of the bottle. I was so upset thinking I was securely placing the handle correctly and all of sudden baaannnggg. There should be a better to securely attach this handle to the bottle. It was not intuitively otherwise It would have never dropped to the floor. The mechanism to secure the handle is not thick, very flimsy. I am still using the handle but I check every time I fill up the bottle with water. This seems like an after thought product.
I was having a bit of trouble getting the plastic ring over the metal rim. First off be sure the string isn't twisted and is going on the way you want it. The string goes on first, under the plastic ring. Take your bottle, empty it and put it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. The cold will cause the metal to slightly contract. While this is going on you need to heat the plastic ring either with a heat gun or with very hot water. This will cause the plastic to get soft and stretchy. I ran mine under hot water for a couple of minutes. After it's hot enough, work the ring around by starting on one side and pushing it down and meeting in the middle on the other side. I did it so the last part to go under was a part of the strap through the eye of the plastic, and I was able to pull it down. Hope this helps someone!
Aside from all of that, I had no idea this handle even had the fire starter, whistle and compass but they are really neat additions. I can definitely say that holding the bottle by this versus the black plastic part of the screw on lid is much more comfortable.
Bottom line is that it seems like it's all good quality and it looks awesome! Can't wait to see how it holds up in the long run.
My wife and I have several Flask bottles, we think they are great and like the colors. I decided to purchase a new one in a smaller size and I saw this handle and thought it would be great to get as well. I saw some reviews mentioning that it broke on the first try but I figured that was a fluke so I ordered it along with my new bottle. I got both of these 2 days ago. I put the handle on my bottle this morning and took it to the gym. The handle snapped as soon as I got out of the car and was walking into the gym dropping my new bottle on the asphalt and denting it pretty badly. I can't believe flask would sell this piece of crap. Do not ignore the negative reviews this handle is terrible, I didn't even get a full days use out of it and now my brand new bottle is damaged.
Update: I increased my review by a star due to Iron Flask's customer service. When I reached out about the damaged bottle they refunded me the cost of the paracord handle and sent me a new bottle. While the paracord handle isn't good quality the customer service was great.
The water bottle itself performs well. However, I ordered the 32 oz as I was afraid the 40 oz would not fit in my car cup holder. The 32 oz fits in my minivan's cupholder by not in my Camry. The 32 oz also has a different neck size than shown so it's too small to hold under an ice dispenser, you have to pour ice into a cup then put individual ice cubes in the hole. Also, if you order a paracord holder, it does not work with the neck of the bottle.
Its a clever design that uses a plastic ring and tension cord to secure the handle to the top of the bottle. Its a bit of work to get it on -- some may want to use a small screwdriver to lever it around (just don't scratch your bottle! tape the end first or use a plastic spudger if you have one). The compass is generally accurate and the safety whistle emits a piercing sound if you blow hard. The only issue is you can no longer use the Metal lid with its' plastic retainer ring -- cause that's the same ring they are using to hold the handle on. As long as you're good with one of the two plastic lids, it works great. 4 stars because I had planned to use the metal cap. 5-stars if you don't care.
One small, personal nit: I hate cheap 'biner clips. This is one of those. Toss it and put a decent clip on. (Nite-ize, etc.)
I love the color of this, and the fact that it matches my bottle perfectly. About the install, it was a little difficult, but once I warmed it up enough, it went on relatively well— DON’T FORCE IT; that’s what causes it to tear, and if you use heat, let it cool down properly before using it. Now, onto the little bonus features— Whistle: it’s pretty loud, made my ears ring when I tried it out, perfect for emergency situations, especially with all the weirdos out there. Mini compass: I haven’t tried it out yet, but I honestly wasn’t expecting it when I ordered it. It’s cute and placed in a spot where it isn’t in the way, and could prove to be very useful if placed in a survival situation. Flint and scrapper: Honestly, this function is so cool! This was something that I wasn’t expecting at all, but I absolutely love that they added into this handle! You use the flint to scrape against the middle prong of the clip to crate sparks, and the scrapper part to cut the cord into desired pieces! Honestly, if I were on naked and afraid, I’d take this handle with me. Overall, I haven’t had any issues with the paracord handle at all, and always get compliments on the aesthetic of it paired with my Iron Flask. The reviews seem divided, but the customer service seems to be above satisfactory, so I’d say it’s safe to say, you can put your trust in this brand, I’ve bought two paracord handles and two Iron Flasks already, and love them so much! Thanks for the read!
