Subtitling requires more thought

This was good film marred by the subtitles at times being impossible to read as they were washed out by the background colours. For example: white subtitles over a character wearing a white shirt made reading them impossible and thus some chunks of dialogue utterly lost. Otherwise a good film.

I'm a big Leung Chiu Wai fan, but I found this a bit boring, possibly after all the hype I'd read about it before seeing it. It was fine, definitely worth seeing. Not sure I'd choose to own it long-term if there was a cheaper alternative of just seeing it once.

A tale of alienation, as two neighbours in a brilliantly evoked cramped sixties Hong Kong apartment block are gradually drawn together by the discovery of a shared secret.
Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung as the leads are one of the finest screen couples in film. The complex emotions are so controlled, this is a film where some of the most high tension scenes happen when they aren't even in the same room, but some of the moments captured along the way are just stunning.

I was so looking forward to this film but my DVD will not play on my multi-region DVD player and will only play on my laptop with a picture that judders so wildly it risks inducing an epileptic fit. Utterly unwatchable. What a shame.

"In the mood for love" est maintenant un classique, c'est un film envoûtant. L'atmosphère de ce film est sublimée par les deux acteurs, en particulier Maggie Cheung qui y est fascinante. Comment ne pas avoir envie de se ruer à Hong Kong pour y retrouver cette atmosphère ? Le romantisme qui se dégage de ce film se déroulant dans les années 60 surprend, car on ne s'attend pas à voir se dégager de tels sentiments esquissés sans démonstration excessive. Beaucoup de choses sont suggérées, on rit, on pleure, on souffre, on est heureux avec ce couple formidable qui ne peut laisser personne insensible. On ne peut que vibrer et frissonner à la vision de "In The mood for love".

Is this another of Amazon's DVD language oversights? For the single DVD version of In the Mood for Love they list the film's language as ENGLISH! YET the language of the Criterion version (which is more than double the price of the single version and that Amazon sells) the language is listed correctly as Cantonese.

What gives with Amazon - is the Criterion in Cantonese and the single DVDs in English? Qing!(Please!)
