I got a goldfish at the fair, but only a couple of weeks after I had set him up with a nice big tank at home, I noticed that he started getting ammonia burns (black spots along his body). I started changing 30-50% of his water every 2 days, but the spots weren't going away. I was hesitant about this product after reading some of the poor reviews, but I decided to try it. I followed the instructions exactly, making sure not to use too much. Within a three days I noticed his spots starting to go away and within 10 days they were completely gone. My little guy is so much happier and healthier now. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a goldfish with ammonia burns.
So I used this because my nitrate levels were high and my fish kept dying. I clean my filters, changed my 50% of the water, add plants levels came down a little bit were still high. I found this on you tube went and ordered it. And the next day my nitrate levels went to 0 . I took my water into the let store they tested it there it was great. The guy looked at me shocked because it was on red the day before. Great product. It levels out your chemicals in your tank
We had a high level of ammonia in our marine tank due to some overfeeding. This product converts the ammonia to a non-toxic form so that it's not harmful to your fish, although your test kit will still show high ammonia levels if it uses salicylate reagents. The bacteria in your tank will process the non-toxic ammonia over time and eventually the test will read 0 ammonia, but in the meantime your fish will be safe. This 16 oz bottle will treat a large amount of tank water - read the instructions and measure it carefully. You may also add a bacterial product to boost the conversion of non-toxic ammonia simultaneously.
I've had fish tanks all my life, but got more serious about it in the past 8 years. I stumbled upon a great forum, and most of them recommended this product. I took a leap, and have been using it for the past 6 years.
Pros: Seems to do a great job treating water - it's a thankless job, but something has to do it.
Cons: Smells bad (could be a pro for pranks?) but the smell is gone once you add the water.
I typically measure out the right amount, then dump it in the bottom of a 5 gallon water jug. I fill the jug, then use that to fill the tank. It's worked out great for me, both in planted and non-planted freshwater tanks. This one bottle should last you a while unless you have a huge (100g+) tank.
I never believe that it would work.. For about 3 months i have been having serious nitrate problems in my 100gal tank. at first i put plants in it then the goldfish eat them, then i put in a partition so i could keep them away from the grass, algae started to grow and the nitrates were over 100. I really tried to clean the gravel but it went down a bit but not enough (80ppm). i removed some of my fish as they were probably over crowding, i reduce the feeding..... I tried a number of different product to remove the nitrate but no luck (not going to mention those names). i then search the web again and found this and orders 2 bottles. At first it said to use a little each day, I tried it for 3 days and took readings each day.. nothing went down. I then thought to put some in the test tubes that i had collected the last 3 days and to my amazement it turned white. I then went straight to the tank and poured a good amount and in 20 minutes later tested the tank again. IT'S AT 5PPM NO JOKE I AM NOT KIDDING..... I am now ordering again as i want to stock up. Not sure how long it will last, but i watch and test each day...
Came on time, packaged as advertized, easy to use. Note - this has a screw on top, so for those wanting drops of the material, you'll have to supply your own dropper. Not an issue if you want teaspoons or tablespoons or greater.
