Why would I want to put something considered a "pesticide" in my humidifier

When I received the pkg., it tells you to dispose of it like you would a pesticide. Why would I want to put something in the humidifier that will in turn put those particles into the air I breathe? Not only am I afraid to use it, I'm afraid to even dispose of it. It says to wrap it in newspaper before discarding (!?!?!) Scary. I'll just keep following the manufacturer's cleaning instructions of using vinegar and then separately bleach once a week.

Turned Water Yellow

Was using my brand new humidifier without this for several days. It seemed like a good idea to help keep the water clean. However, within hours of using it, it turned the water yellow and my brand new humidifier was stained. I took it out and the balls inside were green. I threw it away and have been using my humidifier without it since. No yellow water.

Works great in an ultrasonic humidifier

This has really worked -- better than I expected. I always run a humidifier in the bedroom during the dry winter months -- an ultrasonic humidifier. I use regular tap water and I was getting the dreaded pink slime on the humidifier parts. This product has virtually eliminated the problem! I just put it right in the humidifier tank, and . . . . problem solved. It's been in use for over a month now -- I'm not sure how long the effects will last until I need a replacement, but you can bet I will be buying a replacement!

This product doesn’t seem to work at least not well.

I bought two Honeywell HCM350 humidifiers. I used this product in one and Essick Air 1970 in the other. After one month of use, this product resulted in the filter being 50% degraded (discolored and hardened) whereas the Essick Air 1970 resulted in a 25% degraded filter.

To be fair, I haven’t compared this product with regular, untreated water, so maybe it does have some benefit. Also, it’s much easier to use, since it simply needs to be placed in the water tank. Meanwhile, the Essick Air 1970 has to be added each time, it’s a hazardous chemical, and it foams, which slows the process of refilling the tank. Given that it costs the same as this product, lasts longer, and performs better at prolonging the (expensive) filter life, I plan to use only the Essick Air 1970 going forward.

Good product if you hate cleaning out your humidifier

Cleaning the humidifier tank is one of the most dreaded chores in my house, because it is the kind of thing we don't think to do until we are crawling into bed. These cartridges definitely reduce the need to clean the tank, by about half, and also keep the humidifier filter from looking gross as fast. They are a little pricey, but I think each one will work a little longer than the recommended one month. I think we have used the first one for about a month and it still seems to be keeping our humidifier clean. I wish I'd found them sooner because in the long run they'll keep me from having to change out the even pricier humidifier filters as often.
