Received my dehumidifier today and after reading the owners manual I was ready for it to go to work. Unfortunately, when I plugged it in, the fan started up on it's own and I've been unable to turn the darn thing off by pushing the power button. None of the lights go on so I'm sure it was just a defective item. I'm hoping the seller sends me one that works in exchange for this defective one.
Update 8/4/17: Received a replacement unit from the Amazon customer service department the following week and the new unit has been working perfectly! Thank you Amazon for having an outstanding customer service department!

I brought a frigidaire for $300 at best buy and after about 8 months it died on me so I decided to buy this product.
It's been 6 months and it's still working fine so already it's a better deal then the frigidaire was.
I also compared the humidistat to a separate one in my room and it actually give a more accurate reading then the frigidaire.

Cheaper, probably will last longer, and more accurate than it's more expensive competition. For the price you can't beat it and it's a must have to keep mold from growing in your house if you live in a humid place like I do.

So far this has been doing a great job in our basement. We have kitchen cabinets we're storing down here and it's critical to keep out as much humidity as possible - I have been emptying this one (as well as two others in different rooms in the basement) twice a day. I probably should have gotten one with a larger capacity but thought that since it was in a small room 30 pints would be enough).

My only issues are these:

1. the basin is difficult and awkward to put back after emptying - you literally have to bang it back in, even though the instructions say not to bang it but there's no other way.

2. It seems to be "all or nothing". I could be doing something wrong but I can either put it on "continuously" or set a timer - my other two dehumidifiers have settings for varying levels of humidity and shut off automatically when certain levels of humidity are attained. Setting the timer for, say, 4 hours may not remove as much water as I need, but I also don't need it running 24/7 if the air is dry enough.

3. This doesn't seem to have an auto shut off when the basin is removed or improperly placed - I took the basin out to empty it while the machine was still running - it didn't shut off. This could be a problem if for some reason the basin isn't replaced properly (or at all), the water would end up all over the floor. In fairness I didn't wait too long to see what would happen, maybe it was a fluke.

I still gave it five stars though since it's excellent for the price!

Another junky Chinese dehumidifier, with a flimsy connection for continuous use with hose

I'm lucky if I get 2 years out of these Chinese-made dehumidifiers. I bought this one because Consumer Reports gave it a good review, even though the brand seems new. Doesn't matter, probably all brands come from the same plant(s) in China. If you plan to use a garden hose for continuous use, know the attachment method is very cheap. A short length of Tygon tubing slides over the output spout inside the unit, and the Tygon is slipped on a hose fitting which dangles outside the unit. Maybe it is meant to be a break-away adaptor. You might we better off with a piece of Tygon tubing going from the spout to the drain. I bought this Keystone to replace my last dehumidifier, probably made in the same Chinese factory. The name on the front is Haier, it lasted 27 months on a 12 month warranty. It might be wise to buy the extended warranty on any unit you buy.

Does the job as expected but uses more power than I was hoping. The fan keeps running even when the desired humidity level has been reached. Only when it's well below the desired level it finally shuts off. It's understandable the fan needs to run to detect the current humidity but is could be a lot smarter about this and run for 30 secs every 5 mins or so. This would save 90%.
