So, I finally bit the bullet and figured it was time to try this, and it is pretty awesome. But be prepared for a "ramp-up" period. As day one, you'll wonder if you actually even know how to type. At least that was my experience. Just totally foreign even though is mostly standard QWERTY layout (which is also configurable if you're one of those weirdos). This keyboard offers no sympathy for your bad habits. Its not the ergonomic split, but also the key arrangement is not offset/shifted like you have likely be used to as well as the space between the keys is minimal. As well as a few keys which are now relocated to the thumb area.
But, there is good news - a) you'll get used to it fairly quickly. b) you can remap every key as you see fit.
I took the opportunity to remap several keys right off the start, so I swapped Space/Enter keys, moved the command/option and control keys elsewhere in the thumb area and so on.
So yeah, it really is as good as I've heard. Just know that it is going to require work on your part to become proficient with it, but as soon as you do the payoff Is worth it.
This is an absolutely great invention. I just can't say how much I love it. The buttons are responsive. The design is great and it looks like a rocket.
It's been around a week that I've been using it. The first days typing on it was as hard as hell. I wanted to die. But now after a week I can type even faster than my previous keyboard. Now when I use my laptop keyboard I feel my hands are on a kid's toy. LOL. Now typing on my older keyboard is as hard as typing and programming on an IPad. I still need more practice for using control, shift, alt and Window buttons. I'm sure after a month I'll master the whole keyboard. Still didn't have time to use keyboards Micro functions. I'll update my review if find them helpful.
I upgraded to the KB600 this year after a cat knocked over a cup of coffee into the KB500. The KB500 did not have the cherry ml switch in the function keys. That alone was worth the upgrade.
The KB500 worked great until windows 7. Kinesis had a crap usb hub and ps2 converter in the KB500 that did not work with windows 7. They had a 25 dollar fix, but I had to do the work. I replaced the cable for the ps2 to usb and my own hub. It's nice to have the mouse adapter in the keyboard.
note: I will be adding a usb hub to the KB600.
As a side note, I have washed and cleaned the switches, and all 3 keyboards are still in use.
Kinesis: please add a row of keys on the inside near 6yhn and 5tgb, and please add Bluetooth support.
