KontrolFreek Performance Thumbsticks are designed to provide an advantage in gameplay by increasing the controller’s arc distance and maximizing agility, accuracy and grip. They snap easily on and off your controller’s original thumbsticks, creating a new stick experience that will take your gaming to the next level! KontrolFreek Ultra’s 10.1mm of added height increases the analog stick radial distance by 47%, which provides an arc distance increase of 135.5%. This gives you the ability to make smaller, more precise in-game movements, affording you the luxury of turning up controller sensitivities to maximum levels so you can turn on your opponents faster and gain the upper-hand.

I had previously used KontrolFreeks on my Xbox 360 when I used to play Halo 3 all the time, and I remember them being so helpful back then, so I decided to see if they were still as good as I remembered them being. I bought two sets of these, one set each for PS4 and Xbox One, and have been using these for about a week or so and boy have they helped a ton. The concept is simple, but genius. For people who have twitchy fingers and have a hard time making small adjustments like myself, this has been a huge help in mitigating potential over-aiming. And even for those that are already decent with their aim, the ability to make even more precise shots could go a long way.
I would definitely say that this product will mostly benefit players that have trouble making precise shots, but I would also recommend these to anyone, both to those who have trouble with their aim and those that might want to take their aim to the next level.
I don't know if it's because they're from different vendors (knockoffs?) or if they changed material over the years. See below for all the details.
The Long Story:
I bought a set of KontrolFreek FPS Freek Ultra for the PS4 in 2014 from Amazon (sold by beauty-cloud apparently) and they were fantastic. I used them on my right thumbstick to improve aiming for first person shooters online.
I recently started having grip issues on my native PS4 controller left thumbstick. My thumb would slip a little or fall off. So I tried to buy another set of what I got in 2014, but they are slightly different and definitely inferior.
The set that I just purchased (2018) are KontrolFreek Ultra Performance Thumbsticks for PlayStation 4 Controller. The name is slightly different but the link to my my previous set from my Amazon orders history takes me to that page. This set is sold by TNT Interactive.
The new ones look more gray than the originals, and have a slightly different feel to the (more rubbery), which I liked.
I popped them on and tried playing FIFA 18 with them, but the new ones kept falling off! In less than an hour they had fallen off two different controllers over 5 times. Meanwhile, the old set stayed on just fine. Any sort of sideways force on the new ones and they flipped off the controller. Meanwhile the old ones did just fine when i switched sides.
So I switched sides. The old thumbsticks went over my left PS4 controller stick, and the new ones went over my right thumbstick. I haven't had any problems since the switch. But I'd much rather have the new ones on my left stick and the ones I've used for years on the right.
I can add pictures if needed to back up that these are two different things.
To top off all that, the nubs feel better than a naked PS4 controller. They are bigger, more "cushiony", and offer more grip.
I personally bought two kinds. The FPS Ultra for the right stick, and the CQC for the left. Now, there is the Vortex which does the same thing, but I wanted concave nubs.
My final verdict is that you need these. Even if you think you don't.... yes, you do. They really do improve your accuracy, drastically.
They do add quite a bit of length to the thumbsticks.. but that said, my period of adjustment was about 2 minutes before I started playing with better results -- these are a definite MUST have for anyone with large hands, like me.
I'm really not sure why game console controllers don't come in multiple sizes... why one size fits all, for small children to large adults?
