However they don't last. I have had 3 pairs and each of them has failed. First pair I ordered Dec 2013 which worked for about a year and then I bought a second pair in Oct 2014 which worked bot about a year when I then purchased my third pair in July 2015 and they just now (July 2016) stopped worked.
In every single case one of the ear pieces stopped putting out sound while the other got very quiet. I was convinced that the reason the first two stopped working was because I just tossed them in a bag and maybe the cable got pinched a little too hard by a book or my laptop or something so with the 3rd pair I got a tupperware case and I put the headphones in it religiously before putting them in my bag and yet here we are a year later and they still failed.
They sound great but they just aren't robust.
I only use them for critical listening, not for jogging, gym or outdoor use; they do not have the tightest fit against the ear and I do not think they are good for highly-active use. I find they reproduce music remarkably well, the overall sound is very well balanced, neutral and inoffensive; instrument seperation and soundstage are very good. The KSC75 has quite a reputation among d.i.y enthusiasts for its ease of modding to improve the overall sound for little to no cost.
There is a popular mod for these headphones called the ''KSC75 Kramer mod'', head-fi member kramer5150 introduced this mod over a decade ago. There are full guides on youtube and head-fi on performing the kramer mod, but I prefer just the simple drill mod.
Start with removing the pads, then carefully prying the black plastic grill from the driver. Using a Dremel tool with 5/32'' and 1/8'' drill bits, drill holes in the areas in the attached pic. This mod improves the overall clarity and brings the sound forward, making for a more fun listening experience. Mid and treble detail improves slightly with this specific drill mod and it also seems to add weight to chugging guitars..it can be tremendously satisfying at times. The biggest change in the sound is the bass. Bass punch and extension improves slightly, reaching as low as 60-70hz in my tests, not bad for a small dynamic driver!
The best thing about these little Koss are ease of use/replacement; they are under $20 and super easy to power. My other headphones need an amp to get them to acceptable volume, but these guys can be driven with anything and are great for general purpose and even gaming.
So why 2 stars on such a fantastic running headphone? Because the wires constantly break down at the jack connection. as the wire moves around from your body moving, one of the two earphone wires eventually breaks down and you are left with one earphone. Not the worst thing in the world, except for one huge side effect. On most phone devices, when a wire is bad on a headphone, especially broken, the device reads the jack as either being lose or not in at all. So this will randomly shut off all sound to the headphones.
I've used many different style headphones on a daily basis for work and training and these have the highest rate of failure at the jack connection.
There is a lifetime warranty with Koss, however it will cost you $9, plus the cost to ship the headphones. So at $15 from Amazon, you are really only saving a couple bucks, but have to deal with the time of waiting for Koss to receive, process the return, and ship out another set. My suggestion is get a couple pairs and return when it breaks and use the back up. I return 3 at a time to save me on the shipping.
If it wasn't for the faulty wiring and connection, this would be a superb 5 star product that should be owned by every runner, or active person.
